Uhhhhh no. Sam Darnold signed a 1 year $10 million contract, that was the type of desperation mode teams were in. Denver wasn’t willing to pay that kind of price for someone likely not even better than what they had.

Also none of the quarterbacks you mentioned were better than Wilson/Stidham in terms of the draft picks they would’ve had to give up or the money they would’ve had to use to sign them.

No one was chomping at the bit for Mason Rudolph or Jimmy G.

The Broncos weren’t willing to pay for top backup options because they are paying Russell Wilson $39M to not start for them. Full stop.

If you think this is the QB room that Sean Payton wanted, I’ve got a bridge in NYC to sell you. You are talking about a guy that would consistently pay top level backup contracts when he had Drew Brees as a starter. He wouldn't choose to do the QB room on the cheap this year now that he doesn’t have a seasoned starter.

Zach Wilson is on the Broncos because he was the best $2M option for a team with the biggest dead cap hit in the league. If the Broncos were in a normal payroll situation, you can damn well bet the Broncos would have been spending quite a quite a bit of money to upgrade the talent in the QB room and Wilson wouldn’t have even been an option they thought about.

And if you think Zach Wilson was brought in to be anything other than a break glass in case of emergency type player I’ve got a bridge to sell you too. He was a warm body they didn’t have to pay a ton for, they didn’t overpay for a guy who probably won’t even sniff the field like Minnesota did.

Also you seem pretty misinformed. Payton signed Stidham to a 2 year $10 million deal last offseason because that’s the guy he wanted. Price didn’t matter then and doesn’t matter now. Zach Wilson is gonna be the #3 option in Denver if he even makes the team and was brought in before Denver knew who they were getting and who they get just happened to be the guy Payton really wanted.

They werent paying $10 million for a scrub like Sam Darnold because Payton never wanted a high price backup when he already had Stidham on the roster.

You do realize the Broncos were in the chase to sign Darnold this off-season right? It’s a huge reason he is making as much as he is.

They made the decision to not to go as high as the Vikes only because of their huge dead cap hit they are carrying. It was less about Darnold not being worth it and more about the Broncos not being able to afford it. If the Broncos were in a normal cap situation Payton would have gladly paid Darnold the same as the Vikes did. You are just fooling yourself if you don’t understand that. Payton has show for years a willingness to spend big money for a deep QB room.

Zach Wilson isn't significantly cheaper than Garoppolo or Rudolph. Both of those are under $3.5M. There's going to be a lot of pressure to play the 1st round rookie.

The Broncos were interested in Darnold until they found out his price was gonna be around $10 million. Do I need to find tweets from back then stating as much? They backed out instantly because they weren’t bringing in someone that expensive to potentially be QB 3. That’s why they went with Wilson because he was a long shot to make the roster unless Denver failed to draft a QB in the draft.

And once again you failed to understand what I said. They already had Stidham on the roster who Payton hand picked last year to be a back up(and in his 2 games was about as efficient as Russ while making like $35 million less, they weren’t spending MORE money for a QB 3 when their QB 2 is making half that.

Both of those guys probably weren’t OK with being QB 3 or a chance to not even make the team, Wilson was and that’s why he was given the chance. The Broncos QB battle has seriously been between Nix and Stidham for over a week now, Wilson had a chance but was quickly passed over like most people knew he would be
