I think Pence takes the award for the second straight year. I would not be shocked if Panik takes it, but the award is typically given to vets. I also would not be shocked if Peavy takes it. His acquisition was key.

Haha, I still think Pence gets it but that couldn't have helped last night.

"I want to thank you for this F'n award, this is the greatest F'n organization and you are the greatest F'n fans in baseball!"

Completely disagree. I think it HELPS his chances. It wasn't Posey jumping up with the speech. It wasn't Bum. It was the Rev, himself. And the language was because he was talking to his team in the locker room. If he at a podium, he will speak completely differently.

I didn't realize it was voted on by the players/coaches, so yes it actually sealed the deal (assuming that they already haven't voted).

It is awarded to the player on the San Francisco Giants who best exemplifies the spirit and leadership consistently shown by McCovey throughout his long career

Sounds like Pence to me. For real though, Hunter Pence gives the best speeches, from his 2012 rallying cry, to last years Willie Mac acceptance, to last nights explosion, he certainly knows how to give a good story. I can't wait until tonight's speech.

Interesting...

Bonds never won this. Not once.

The greatest player on the face of the planet, and he didn't win this award. Ever.

Edit:

Neither did Will. THAT is shocking. Maybe he wasn't considered such a great teammate? Maybe there are stories we don't know that explains why his number is not retired...

Isn't Clark a classic redneck, with shades of racist? Maybe he used the n-word around Willie Mays one too many times.

It's not about being the best player, it's "who best exemplifies the spirit and leadership", and I think it's pretty well know Bonds wasn't always the most liked guy in the clubhouse.

Whats funny to me is that Bengie Molina won 2 of them (07'-08'), and then became such a cancer by late 2009, 2010.

I am well aware it is a leadership award. My comment on Bonds was more anecdotal of what we all knew. My comment on Clark was a eureka moment.

As for Molina, I am not sure the other payers saw him as a cancer. I think they saw his '09 actions as business. We as fans (I guess I should say "I as a fan") considered him dead because he put his personal situation ahead of the team.

Not on my quick short list, but well deserving.
