If losing the season puts Bettman's job in jeopardy, I'm fine with it. This shit needs to stop. I'm not buying anything with an NHL logo on it for at least one year.

That's the kicker though, I don't think it will. I don't think Bettman will ever be canned by the owners.

There's no fucking reason to cancel the WC so soon. It's all bullshit.

Fuck the NHL. I've grown accustomed to no hockey, and, if they do cancel the WC, I say fuck them all and I don't think I will be back.

I think we'll see some sort of season only because I think there are several franchises that will be ir-repairably(sp?) damaged by missing the entire season and I don't think the remaining owners/NHL are ready to foot the bill to "re-stabalize" them.

that's why I think there's hope.2 of the biggest owners-Jacobs and Snider, have let it be known numerous times, that they are tired of the profit sharing to keep the bottom feeders going.

That's exactly how I feel. I've hit that point where I resent this league. Gwinnett Gladiators bandwagon, here I come!

the difference is small (about $2.3m per team).
the egos are big. that's a problem.

I think we get a half-season in, but I'm trying not to care until it happens.
even then, it will be a limited enthusiasm. and fiscally non-existant.

Agree. But change the WC with All Star Game.

Not looking good there, either. Typically by now the host city would be working with the local house and minor teams soliciting applications for kids to get tickets and carry flags etc.

Nothing.

Maybe not, but then again when they cancel it really doesn't matter. The fact they are gonna do it two months in advance of the game shows the NHL is not taking the negotiations seriously and has no intentions of getting things going before the WC. They could leave the game uncancelled all the way up to December 31st, but it wouldn't actually change anything.

I dont want to see hockey now. At this point its a really short season. See you next year, though this means negotiations wont start until September next year. I dont want to see Bettman gone if Fehr survives. Fuck them both, and fuck the players and the owners - neither side has tried to make a deal.

This has been my biggest point all along, well kinda.

How can the owners be on the same page when all have such varying views on what the league needs to move forward? It's impossible(IMO) for the owners to stay on the same page for as long as the NHLPA will be able to when they have such varying groups inside of themselves.

Out of curiosity, are we expecting the WC to be the same teams/setting next year? I'd be pretty upset as a fan of one of those teams if they changed it up for 2014.

The general consensus is that the Leafs and Red Wings would meet again at The Big House on January 1, 2014.

Columbus has been pushing to play Nashville, St Lou or Chicago at the 'Shoe.

They figured the year after next (expecting NE Teams to get it next). Now... who knows?

fify

league has to finish this lockout, recover enough that a winter classic game makes sense, lockout again due to the short CBA and the NHL's propensity for lockouts, and then recover enough for a 5th time in 30 years to have a game worthy of national television

Same here....BTW...I am in ATL A LOT for work and next time down going to a game. Seriously should I order the tickets or is game day purchases easy to come by. I am assuming easy to come by since it is Atlanta and it is hockey.

Anyway I see their leading scorer is none other than ex Penguin "prospect" Casey Pierro-Zabotel.

This sucks. I was a diehard fan growing up. The last handful of years living out of market and dealing with the real world (graduating college, paying bills, etc etc), the NHL became less important to me. I would still watch 10-15 games a year and watched most of the Sharks playoff games (when I was younger, if I missed 1 minute of Sharks playoff hockey, I would freak out).

Now, Im not really that upset the lockout is happening. If the NHL came back, Im not really sure Id tune in.

If the NHL loses people like me, they are absolutely fucked in the long run.

I keep hearing about how the NHL and NHLPA can't agree on how to split the record $3.3 billion in revenues from this past season. Well, they can both wave goodbye to that yearly figure because it's shrinking by the minute due to their collective greed.

At this point, I don't know whether to hope that this lingers on for awhile and the game I love most suffers exponentially or that it gets resolved quickly, we have hockey to enjoy, but no lessons are learned.
