Will Mike Richards show up?

i love richards when he plays hard, but if you think he's played up to snuff this season you're out of your mind.. people get on steeg for turning the puck over, he's just richards' protege.

that no look, backhand, pass to the empty slot that this team loves so much (and cost the team against buffalo last week) was perfected and shared by mike richards

I love the guy, but he is not doing his job. I post his SH against the Habs way too much, but in that video you can see he wants this team to win. But instead of letting them sag off and let himself being invisble for a good chunk of the season he has gotta step and tell this team it is do or die.

This is the sentiment that I don't understand... I've watched most of the games through the stretch where everyone decided he "isn't playing hard enough," and honestly don't see the same thing. The stats also bear out that Richards has been one of the Flyers' top forwards during the time they were playing poorly. Saying he's not playing well is a purely subjective assessment based upon, what, the fact that the Flyers were losing?

If they won 9 of the last 10 games and Richards played the exact same way, would anyone be talking about how he's not a leader? Obviously not.

So why does it all fall on Richards? Why doesn't that fall on the coach? Or any other player or players?

It's all irrelevant at this point. The playoffs start tomorrow and we'll see what this team is made of. But it will be disappointing if the Flyers lose, and if Richards doesn't score, people will inevitably say it's because he didn't get the team ready to play.

My beef with Richards is the way the guys mind seems to drift for long periods of time during a game. I mean, the guy has all the talent in the world, but seems to only use it when he feels like it.

We can slice and dice his overall game till the cows come home, but the bottom line is is that Richards IS the Captain of this team and Captains are supposed to lead by example, not by spacing off until they feel like contributing.

Personally, I hope and pray that the Mike Richards that sells himself out night after night shows up tomorrow night and makes me eat my words.

When I started this thread it was to somehow get through to King Richards that he needs to lead by example!

Great player(one of my favorites) but he changed his style of aggression and in my personal opinion He hasn't been at his best that we know he can play!

Not to mention his leadership on and maybe off the ice! The last 15 games were so Fuckin hard to watch because NOBODY played 60 minutes of Hockey! Now i know some of that falls on the coach but Lavi does his part each and every night!

I am no way shape or form a hater of Richards!

He is our CAPTAIN and needs to do CAPTAIN like things like have the rest of the bench play a full 60 MINUTES!

I hear ya, But he really did show up last year and show leadership, at least IMO, but for me I have to wait until he doesn't before I question him, I know he has lapses during the regular season, but it's a long season, so I will give him a little break there. I hope he plays hard, if he does he will be a def factor.

mike richards is playing well when he's hitting everything that moves.. and when he hits everything that moves, the rest of the team plays much more physical, and this team is 10x better when they are hitting people

i'm not saying anything about taking the C away or anything like that, cause that's not smart.. i'm just saying i hope he plays in the playoffs the way he played in the playoffs last year, not the way he played this regular season

i want to see hits. if you look at my current shit list ranking its 1. Pronger and 2. Richards, and that's 97% because i expect those players to lay people out, and if they aren't doing that (i know pronger is injured, but he wasn't hitting ppl), i get annoyed by them.

this thread is ridiculous. mike richards has gotten the praise of just about every player he's played with and has won on all levels, and was 2 wins away from a cup. everyone had the same doubts this time last year and boy did he prove everyone wrong. hes a big game player and will do so in the playoffs. end of story. and for the last time i would just like to establish HE DOES NOT NEED TO SCORE TO BE CONSIDERED SUCCESSFUL...he was not drafted to be a point getter..he does EVERYTHING. scoring is merely another thing he does. you cant find many other players in the league that play the PP, the PK, get 20 goals, 40 assists, check hard, fight, take faceoffs, play amazing defense, and fight along the boards. he's the total package. we have guys like briere to get goals.

Well if we got out and lose this series with no contribution then he does have to hold more of the weight than any other player of his caliber would. He is the Captain and should be motivating our troops and getting point that get this team going.

he can still lead by example and do lots of things to motivate his guys without scoring. yes, he is accountable for some goals, for sure, but he doesnt have to lead the team by just scoring

Anybody that doesn't like it, doesn't know hockey.
People that want him to put up huge nombers in the regular season are fools.
The Flyers score with all their parts, not individuals. Thats why you don't take any of them early in a regular season hockey pool.
Playoffs are a different animal, hence the reason why Richy/Briere/Harts.... step it up.
