I know that much. After that loss to VT and seeing the fact that Florida will finish 5-7, the voters should have knocked Miami out of there.

Duke got dealt with by Pitt and Georgia Tech. Miami lost to a highly ranked FSU and pretty good VT team. Duke did beat VT, so that's a plus for them, but they got beat by GT in the same manner Miami beat GT.

Overall, Miami looks like the much better team. Miami is now hurting because they lost their RB last week.

Both teams could be ranked and I think Duke is on the verge of being ranked. If Duke wins this week against Miami, then Duke will be top25 and Miami will fall out.

The question should be less about why is Miami ranked and more about what does Duke need to do to be ranked.

FSU looks top 3 right now and VT is a rivalry game that goes back and forth. By seasons end Miamis 2 losses(so far) will be to ranked teams while a top 5 teams loss is to a unranked.

By your philosophy, Stanford should not be Top 5.

My point is probably that Miami hasn't beaten a quality opponent. Your best win is against a team that won't even make a bowl game.

LSU has beaten a top 10 team and none of their losses were to bad teams and/or they've been competitive in those losses. Georgia has multiple wins over ranked teams and clearly have demonstrated they are a good football team.

Clemson could also lose 2 more games this year ...
