The Braves' AAA affiliate is in the same metro area as the big club, same with the Mariners and Twins.
There's teams with their AAA affiliate on the other side of the country(the Nationals' AAA team is in Fresno, CA, and until recently the Mets AAA team was in Las Vegas).
With so much roster attrition that goes on throughout the season, wouldn't it make a lot more sense logistically to have your AAA squad in close proximity?
And it seems like some teams keep the same affiliates forever, where other teams change AAA cities every other year.
I think the Gwinnett Braves (oops Stripers) worked out largely because ATL is such a large market...it can support the minor league affiliate and the big league team. I actually forget who was the AAA team, maybe Richmond Braves.
Regional is not terrible...in some of these minor league cities, the team is the only pro sport in town....the but across the country seems like it would create more problems than it's worth.
