Why don't more teams have their AAA affiliate in close proximity?

The Braves' AAA affiliate is in the same metro area as the big club, same with the Mariners and Twins.

There's teams with their AAA affiliate on the other side of the country(the Nationals' AAA team is in Fresno, CA, and until recently the Mets AAA team was in Las Vegas).

With so much roster attrition that goes on throughout the season, wouldn't it make a lot more sense logistically to have your AAA squad in close proximity?

And it seems like some teams keep the same affiliates forever, where other teams change AAA cities every other year.

I think the Gwinnett Braves (oops Stripers) worked out largely because ATL is such a large market...it can support the minor league affiliate and the big league team. I actually forget who was the AAA team, maybe Richmond Braves.

Regional is not terrible...in some of these minor league cities, the team is the only pro sport in town....the but across the country seems like it would create more problems than it's worth.

The reason the Mets have their AAA in Vegas is because they're idiots. I think they plan to move closer soon.

Had, not have.

Also, the reason they were in Vegas is because Norfolk, Scranton and Buffalo are complete retards. Norfolk and Buffalo especially.

The Red Sox AAA Pawtucket RI. is moving to Worcester a little farther away just so the players can get used to the Boston accent.

The Twins' AAA is in Rochester NY, not Rochester MN. I never have gotten this.

There's a great, new ballpark in the St. Paul Saints 5 miles away that is an independent league club, but I'm sure they'd love to upgrade to AAA players.

Instead the Twins have continued to re-up with a team in New York that's 1000 miles away. Does not make sense to me.

Where's St. Paul Saints, Minnesota? I can't seem to find it anywhere on the map.

What are Pawtucket's plans for McCoy Stadium going forward?
Don't know yet. They just broke ground on the new stadium so they have until 2021.
They are looking into getting another team or tearing it down for development.
Up in the air right now but the park is 77 years old.

Colorado Springs should be reserved for the Rockies only

Why? They already were a Rockies affiliate. The Rockies clearly didn't (and don't) want a team there.

Now they're a short-season Rookie-ball team in the Pioneer League...the Vibes.

If they were to have a AAA team at altitude it would makes sense for it to be an affiliate of a MLB team that plays at altitude.

You seem awful confrontational in this thread

Omaha being relatively close to KC is nice.

The AA team being in Northwest Arkansas kinda screams "David Glass and Walmart" to me, but I haven't done much research into it.

A+ is Wilmington, Delaware.

A ball is Lexington, Kentucky.

Sure, if by confrontational to mean putting ignorant posters talking about the Mets AAA affiliate locations on blast? Then yeah I guess I have been.

As for your post I replied to, the Rockies clearly aren't interested in having a full-season affiliate nearby in Colorado, so I don't know why you're so hell bent on suggesting that.

Here's the Brewers' spray chart of minor league affiliates:

upload_2019-7-15_10-32-47.png

AAA - San Antonio, TX
AA - Biloxi, MS
A+ - Zebulon, NC
A - Appleton, WI
Rookies - Colorado Springs, CO & Phoenix, AZ

The Braves' spray chart makes a lot more sense.

That said, I'm sure climate plays a factor. Not many folks in the north-central U.S. are going to pay to watch some prospects play baseball in rainy 40°-50° weather for the first two and last month(s) of the season.

your A-Advanced team is in Winston-Salem. makes little sense to have two of your minor league affiliates in NC

i should probably pull for the White Sox as my AL team
Philly has three minor league affiliates within an hour and a half drive of the stadium. Works out well for the team, IMO. There's almost always a chance for someone to play a rehab game or two in a Phillies affiliated facility and be able to get to the big club easily the next day.

What's the third affiliate? I came up with Lehigh Valley and Reading, no problem. But I drew a blank on the third.

I don’t think you have the required mental capacity to put someone on blast. And a mere suggestion =/= hell bent
