Why don't more teams have their AAA affiliate in close proximity?

Louisville is an hr from Cincinnati. It makes perfect sense for us.
Yeah, then the Dayton Dragons are the Single A. Those two cities make the most sense for Cincy minor league cities.

No, they just moved out of there this season. I should have said they had a team in Vegas because they're idiots

I'm not all that familiar on what happened to land them in Vegas other than "teams play musical chairs every two seasons and the Mets got left out" somehow. Not sure who broke up with whom between the Mets and the Tidewater region; I think the short story is that the parent club took the affiliate for granted, and did not do enough investing in the team or the community. I think the real answer is that Baltimore just came in and made better offers.

The Mets changed affiliations to New Orleans, then Buffalo, and then Vegas happened. I didn't really care about the team in Vegas, other than when the callups had to make that long trip. Not like I'm going to go out there for a game. Never once attended a game in Norfolk, either. I'll go to Cyclones games because they're a subway ride away.

Mets and Yankees both have single-A affiliates in the city limits, both of which serve as good places for a rehab stint. I saw Jose Reyes in Coney island a couple seasons ago...was a big deal for my son

I used to think the main reason to have an affiliate so far away was to build more of a national fan base, but i don't know how much that actually happens. If the parent club sucks or they don't have a lot of farm players that you saw in double-A, you probably won't be a fan
Another thing to consider is where the leagues are. While it would be great to have a AAA or AA team within driving distance to the major league club, they also need to be in relative proximity to the other farm teams.

Lexington should have the AA afilliate. Would be much easier for me for sure. Instead we've had the Astros and now the Royals Single A.

I was talking about Chatanooga. No reason for our AA to be there instead of here in Lex. We've got a very nice minor league ballpark. And this is the heart of Reds country. I go to a game month right now, I'd go to one every week more often than not if it were Reds guys out there. Seeing Taylor Trammell and Hunter Greene with Thirsty Thursday $1 beer and hot dogs...sheeeeeeiiiiiiiiiit

There are so many other factors that are more important. In fact, it is dumb to have your AAA team close to your mlb team. No one* is going to go see the minor league team when the mlb team is right there.

Oooh, hi there

This is probably reason #1 to attend a minor league game. I remember going to Sally League stadiums and getting 32 oz beers for 3 bucks, which helps to digest the shitty baseball you're seeing

Oh no doubt, it's the greatest. Here in Lexington, and really all over the state, we have extremely competitive HS baseball. I'd argue the quality of play in Lexington HS games is better than some SAL games we see.

But it's a damn good time at the stadium. Cheap beer and grub. Plenty of ladies come out to watch. Good weather. Can't beat it man.

The Florida Single A affiliate is Daytona.

I believe we've got
AAA - Louisville
AA - Dayton and Chattanooga
A - Greeneville and Daytona

I get why everyone has a team in Florida or Arizona. That's fine. The Lexington Legends play in the SAL v Greeneville....just takeover the team here Cincy. We usually have about 1,000 fans a night....could definitely draw several hundred more on the reg if you start putting Reds guys out there instead as opposed to Kansas City.

Still, I think we're more deserving of the Chattanooga slot considering we have twice the population plus proximity to both Dayton, Louisville, and of course Cincinnati.

In SC, we had some really good American Legion ball teams, but those were high schoolers and you couldn't get a beer.

So it doesn’t take attendance away from the major league team. When your team sucks do u go watch the up and comers or the shit product your team is throwing out there

Yea. 290 has entrances right where the parks being built. 15 mins on 290 to 495. 10 mins to the pike. Then its pike right in. Plus its in the same state now, which makes more sense.

As opposed to just hopping on I-95 and driving straight into Boston.
