Because I'm into hardcore torture
Good post. But being a big fan back then I can't really identify with the 80's as the golden years when it was pretty much a 2 team league.
For the most part it has always been like this, a couple of elite teams and others chasing. In the 70's and 80's it was the Lakers and Celtics. When the Lakers had their 33 game winning streak they were beating the snot out of teams. I just heard this tonight but they beat the Warriors by 63 during that streak. From that aspect the NBA has always been like that but it seems like people more nowadays bc everything is just talked about more especially with social media and all that bullshit.
If parity is the most important thing to you as a fan, then the NBA is probably not for you. The NBA does not have any parity for 2 reasons:
1) a legit superstar has more impact here than any other sport. 1 man can't carry a football or baseball team like they can in the NBA. Teams that do not have a superstar have virtually no chance.
2) free agency assures that the rich will continue to get richer
If the rich get richer anyway then what was the problem with the Lakers acquiring CP3? I kid, the Lakers didn't end up in such a tight spot; after a couple of the worst seasons in franchise history, of course.
This has been beat to death already, but only Laker fans keep bringing it up.
The NBA owned the Hornets at the time. Stern vetoed the trade because it did not provide any decent long term assets for the team the NBA owned and therefor lowered resale value. A prospective buyer is way more likely to invest in a team with multiple lottery picks and future assets than a veteran laden 45 win team.
The problem was that the league owned the team to begin with any that Stern did not make his acting front office guy run potential deals through him first. Stern was not acting as commish when he vetoed, he was acting as owner. The fact that he was even in that spot was the real problem. It had absolutely nothing to do with the Lakers and everything to do with the Hornets.
And you keep saying the same thing about it. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.
And I guess you missed where he said "I kid"?
How about this:
When people stop bringing it up, I will stop replying. It was a long time ago and the Lakers have a good young core. Get over it already!
To see Zach LaVine completely tarnish the Len family name
Fair enough
