Why do we still have ties in the NFL?

theres not enough ties in the NFL to worry about it.

I always think a tie in a season makes it interesting when all the teams battle for a playoff spot.

Sometimes the non loss of a team or a non win of a team makes the difference on who gets in.

if you cant win in the 5th qtr why allow one team to gain a victory? obviously isn't deserved that day!

Simple fact is this...NFL games don't end in ties enough to make a big deal out of this. While I still prefer the sudden death rule, if a game ends in a tie, then it's a tie.

The one instance where it seemed to really matter was last year when the Hawks and 9ers have same number of wins, but because of the 1 ties they had, they have a better overall winning %.

In 1997 I think, on one weekend, we had 3 games go past the first OT to determine a winner. It used to be triple OT.

The problem is that people started getting injured AND, if you play triple OT, you've almost played another whole game.

It was decided, I think rightfully so, to stop after one OT so prevent injuries and wear on the players.

Last year San Fran had a tie with the Rams and it gave them an edge in the play off seeding

They should keep it as is, but both teams tying get credit for a loss.

An edge relative to a loss, but who cares? They could have won, too.

Why is it so upsetting to see a tie game?

If the game ends in a tie, the fastest player from each team should line up on the 1 yard line and Sprint to the end zone, first player to cross the end zone wins the game for their team....problem solved

you forgot the part with the oreo

Playing more minutes would only add to each teams IR. Hockey has a shootout after overtime. Football could do a kickout. Have the fieldgoal kickers decide the game. Each kicker gets a shot at a 50 yard field goal then a 55 and a 60. Whichever team misses after one's made loses.

Nothing wrong with it. It's not like every week there is a tie either.

You'd be bitching and moaning if a player on your team who is a key player gets hurt in the 2nd OT and out for the entire season. Keep it the way it is...

Besides.... SCORE A TD first.... and problem solved

Yeah, you have to tie. It doesn't make sense for a team to lose the following three weeks just to break a tie.

what about using field goal attempts to decide it? Like at the end of overtime both kickers just start trying to hit field goals from 30, 40, 50 yards till someone misses. That way player safety is not an issue.

Mindnumbingly retarded. A tie is incomparably better than just handing the game to the better field goal kicker.

Oh fuck off jackass. I don't think a tie is better than anything. Shouldn't play 4 hard quarters of football without anyone winning. Its stupid..... like you.

A tie is better than playing 10 quarters and having both teams lose out the rest of the season because they have no healthy players left, which is still better than telling 49 of the 51 players they don't matter any more, the field goal kicker's got it.
