in the NHL, every team has a beautiful rendition of the song without butchering it. That's rarely true in the NBA, MLB, and NFL.

There should be a law against these entertainers butchering the national anthem to draw attention to themselves.

I missed it, but even then. Show some damned respect and stop making a spectacle of yourself at the expense of the National Anthem.

I used to go to a ton of Lakers games. I saw some deplorable shit. :md2: Everybody trying to make a name for themself.

well, she was 10, so...

But she gave every impression that she thought she was hot shit, and that made all the difference to me.

She was gesticulating them arms, altering pitch, adding notes that didn't belong, and then at the end she's mugging for the camera as if she nailed it, when the reality - as it appeared to me - was that she tried to imitate some favorite pop star and failed miserably, sounding instead like Gemini's Twin from Saturday Night Live.

If she had just sang it straight with a shy smile at the end, like a normal 10-year-old, the "Awww...adorable!" factor would have been off the charts. She could have even still butchered the words and notes; without all the mugging it would have been, "oh yeah, she made a great effort for a 10-year-old."

I get it: you have some stage presence, probably got a Tiger Stage Mom in the wings waving her arms along with you, mouthing the words "Project! Smile!" the whole time, and people have been telling you how talented you are...but the Anthem is supposed to be sung "to honor America," not for you to audition for The Voice.

That's it. Respect the Anthem.

Did you know that we're not even supposed to CLAP after the anthem has been sung? Everyone does it, but it's not intended to be a performance.

Honestly, I'd rather we not do it before ball games anymore. Look at how it has been cheapened.

You know what REALLY got me? All the "yeeeeeeeeeeeah!" and catcalls right in the middle of the thing when the singer starts really deviating from the anthem to draw attention to themself. The worst I ever saw was some woman dressed like an absolute fool playing a white violin. She did a Jimi Hendrix type rendition of it on the violin with a bunch of distortion and she was dancing all over the place. It was deplorable. No other way to put it. And the crazier it got, the louder the LA crowd got. They ate it up. :L
