Get rid of those HORRIBLE court designs!!
Was just about to post this. I can't watch because of those silly NBA Cup floorboards.

Why did we even need a cup? We already have an end-of-season playoffs.

This ain't soccer.

Do these ratings only cover broadcast and cable? There are so many options now that this may not be an accurate representation. Plus ESPN and TNT only show about 6 teams ever where with League Pass you can watch who you want. Lastly, there are several streaming sites that you can access any game that you want. The stats that you are citing are a poor representation of the fan base. Clearly, the advertisers still think it is worth it.

Generally speaking with respect to most of these reports, no they don't include streaming. Which is why most of these discussions are essentialy useless and filled with idiots using their own biases to slag off on whatever sport/channel/tv show they have a problem with. Streaming numbers aren't typically released to the public. What we get are Nielson ratings, which are largely becoming outdated and there's an argument within the TV industry of what value they even have because of how Nielson chooses to collect its data. Many networks don't even use them much anymore, using other services or their own internal numbers.

Here's all one needs to know; go look at the NBA's latest media deal. See that ginormous figure? That tells you what media/advertisers think of the product and its overall health

Personally, I stopped subscribing to NBA League Pass this year because I knew my Sixers were going to be dog shit. I was sadly correct.

Bullshit. No you didn't.

Embiid was just coming off an Olympics gold medal performance and they signed Paul George in free agency. No chance in hell did you think they were going to suck.

Man up and own your shit!

Huh. And here I was thinking that people talking about why they no longer watch the NBA is relevant in a thread about why ratings are down.
But, apparently, posting about this topic makes one a “loser” now.

Yep. Half the people commenting on this thread have never posted in the NBA forum. I'm sure their input is exactly what we need

Easily explained

1. Their team sucks and they're bandwagon fans
2. At some point somebody must have taken a knee during the national anthem and they're triggered
3. They were never a fan to begin with but feel the need to complain about something, so they're making stuff up
4. Dumbasses wanting to mix politics with sports and have a very strong opinion about it

You don’t need to “explain” it. You can just read what people have posted in this thread.

I don’t understand this “must defend the NBA at all costs” attitude from some on here. Is it a perfect product? Is it as good as it was when you were a kid? Is anyone critical of the NBA in any way just plain wrong?

Who is "defending at all costs"?

You literally asked for an explanation in the very first post. I gave you honest answers instead of the bullshit you got from "Non-fans"

That's fair.

But then it's also fair to question why folks who claim to not have watched the NBA in a decade or longer, who claim not to like the NBA anymore, etc. are suddenly concerned about its tv ratings.

I mean, I don't watch hockey...which is why you don't see me on the NHL boards.

And I hate soccer which is why I couldn't even tell you if we have a soccer board here. lol

Ever since it turned into a 3pt shooting contest/dunk-fest, yes. But I grew up watching Larry Bird so I saw was spoiled. I don’t even recognize whatever it is that the NBA has become.

Honestly the lack of variety has something to do with it

Narrowing the lane back to the original 6 ft

Taking away corner 3s, or basically all 3s below the fr line extended is a good start

The main issue is the lack of American young superstars imo. Imagine if Jokic and Luka were American?

Ant is the best one that comes to mind in terms of style of play/fun guy but being Minnesota doesn’t help much

I like the idea of taking away corner 3s. Just have the arc keep going not bend to a straight line.

You obviously haven’t read my posts in this forum. Go look. I’ve been calling for them to trade Embiid and called the whole offseason signings plan misguided. Look it up!

The NBA is the entity that injected the politics to begin with. Whether you agree with their politics or not, this fact is undeniable. Kneeling during the anthem, identity political slogans on player jerseys (In lieu of their actual name) and courts, endless propaganda talking point conversations by analysts and commentators (Topics which the vast majority of them know nothing about, because they're sports analysts/commentators and have nothing to do with politics).... It has lightened up in the last 2 years or so, but during the bubble and the year after, you couldn't just watch a basketball game. It was like watching a celebrity CNN/MSNBC all star weekend game. That shit turned a lot of people off, whether you want to admit it or not.
