Who's Up For Some Mountain Lion Hunting?

Having scraped up cattle and horses, foot prints, and personal sightings, the Game and Parks denied their existence for years....

Until folks started showing pictures, shooting them, and hitting them with cars. That's what it took for the G&P to acknowledge them. They then played them down and called them a couple of male strays that had been pushed out of their environment by more dominant males.

Now there are so many a hunting season is being considered.

My belief is they were seeded.

So this is probly not very pertinent but I was once woken by the sound of a mountain lion outside my hammock whilst camping in the rocky mountains. Kindof shit myself there and stuff at that moment.

I was at a fly in fishing camp in NW Ontario years ago. We'd left early in the morning fishing and when we came back there were a couple of black bears in the camp looking around. Fired a couple of shots into the air and they ran off.

I was only about 10 yrs old at the time and had no firearm, might have been pretty useful, Regan had no ban going at the time as it were.

SD has had a hunting season for the last few years and keep increasing the limit each year. The DNR has no idea really what the population for lions are in SD and I doubt Nebraska doesn't really know either. Those cats are great swimmers. What ever they decide for limits they will need to increase them.

Swimming across the river would be no problem for an adult, healthy mountain lion. However, there are so many bridges along the way that they could simply walk over if they wanted. There's always the option to take a cab, too.

Not sure if you read the article but they wanted to wait until the humane society got there to tranquilize it, but the mountain lion was not going to stay put. There were children in the building as well as an elementary school and neighborhood a couple blocks away. While it is unfortunate, the situation would have been much worse if the cat had gotten away.
