From what I have read it looks like its Jarvis Jenkins. Thoughts?
True, but I think the practices hold more weight than the actual games unless you really bomb during the game.
Football is probably one of the most technique specific sport there is. The work the players are doing now is huge. It is often one on one or two on two. Gruden has ramped up the hitting but only so much tackling is allowed by the CBA.
Games are when the live bullets fly. Games are when 11 vs. 11 where the other 11 are trying to defeat you happens. Nothing beats or compares to giving an accurate read then a game.
Gruden said as much. You can't really evaluate a guy until he's under live fire. Gruden knows who his top 35 players are. He needs to find out the next 20 and their play in preseason games will go a long way to determining that.
We are about to find out who is having the best camp. You can hit ground balls to a shortstop before the game and he can look like Ozzie Smith, then the game starts and he lets 3 balls go right by him and throws one into the stands.
The coaches have a good idea who is excelling and chances are those guys will continue to impress at the next stage, but funny things happen when you go against real opponents. Some rise up, and some fall.
