seriously, this isnt even close...
Neither of them were great power guys... Kirby had only one season of 30+ HRs, Clemente had none... but they were both known more for BA...
And thats where it is not close, because if BA is your thing then so should OBP... and Puckett's all time best OBP was a .379, Clemente had 5 seasons better than that with 3 seasons over .400...
Defensively, the question is whether a GOOD Center fielder is better than an ELITE Right fielder...
But all in all this is an easy one nos... Clemente clearly wins...
Good vs Elite defender huh?
Fielding %
Clemente - .973
Puckett - .989
162 game averages
Clemente : Doubles 29 - Triples 11 - HR's 16 - RBI 87 - AVG .317 - OBP .359
Puckett : Doubles 38 - Triples 5 - HR's 19 - RBI 99 - AVG .318 - OBP .360
Clemente also had a couple seasons where he was under .300 for OBP Puckett was never below .320. If you are gonna mention one you have to mention both.
Now I am a huge fan of Roberto Clemente and am completely fine with people saying he was better but to say this is an easy one is silly.
I don’t care about both. Kirby only played for 12 seasons and I have always been a best seasons person. When player A’s Best is beaten so many times, then that is an easy comparison.
You don't care about both, lolzzz
What about your elite vs good defender argument? Kinda wrong there huh? lolzzz
Clemente played about 700 more games so for him to put up those numbers for 18 years is pretty damn impressive. I am not saying he is a whole lot better but he was better
I would say elite to gret defender. Both were fantastic defensively. 6 to 12 gold gloves. Clemente had an amazing arm, one of the best ever

Fielding %
Clemente - .973
Puckett - .989
Also that's center field vs right field
i am LOLing at you even bringing that up one player played for 18 seasons the other played 12... of course in a longer career the player will have some BAD seasons...
The point still is if Player A's BEST season was .379 and Player B had 5 seasons better than that, then how is it important that Player B had 2 seasons below .300
Defensively, i like looking on dWAR not at the numbers but i Group the stats, i consider 0 to be average, anything above it to be above average, anything above 2 to be ELITE...
Puckett in 12 seasons had 1 season of being ELITE, and then 5 other seasons of being above average,
Clemente had 3 seasons of being ELITE, and then 9 seasons of being above average....
So according to the dWAR they both had 6 seasons of being Below Average...
Those bad seasons were at the beginning of his career. OBP is simply not the be all end all stat you think it is and if you look at every other stat Puck is better.
How is it not important, did that not have an effect on his team? You don't get to talk up the good and dismiss the bad.
Sorry but Puckett was better defensively and it's really not that close. Clemente did have maybe the best throwing arm in RF all time though.
its hard to argue vs a homer... you are getting defensive and taking things out of context again...LOL at homer Nos Crying at the Facts that his idol is not as good as he thought he was!!!
