You can use any reasoning you'd like but I wanted to see some opinions around here on some guys who were supremely talented/productive but could potentially miss the cut. I tried to go for guys near 30 and over (so no Giannis, Kyrie, etc.). If they're not quite there, what would you need to see from them to make the cut?

1) Vince Carter (8x AS, 2x All NBA, ROY)
2) Draymond Green (3x AS, 2x All NBA, 1 DPOY, 5x All D, 3x champ)
3) Kyle Lowry (6x AS, NBA Champ)
4) Blake Griffin (6x AS, 5x All NBA, ROY)
5) LaMarcus Aldridge (7x AS, 5x All NBA)
6) Joe Johnson (7x AS)
7) Kevin Love (5x AS, 2x All NBA, NBA Champ)
8) Klay Thompson (5x AS, 2x All NBA, 1 All D, 3x Champ)
9) Paul George (6x AS, 5x All NBA, 4x All D)
10) Damian Lillard (5x AS, 4x All NBA, ROY)
11) Jimmy Butler (5x AS, 2x All NBA, 4x All D)

I agree with this for the most part. I think Vince is a no brainer. Thompson and Lillard are the only others that should be in the conversation. I think they both make it but I also think they both need a couple more very big years which will happen. We can’t forget how screwy the basketball hall of fame is though.

Why is PG a no, but Jimmy a maybe?

Also, I'm kind of in the Maybe camp for Vince Carter as well. I mean, what's really the difference between him and PG? And PG played better defense.

Because if Jimmy wins a title with the Heat, he will likely be the main guy. That won't be the case for PG if he wins one.

Vinsanity will get in on the first ballot. Great as he was, I don't necessarily think he should get in on the first ballot, but a lot of folks love that guy. So it'll be more emotion based I think.

Carter and Klay are no brainers.

Lillard could be, but he has work to do.

Draymond has a good chance, but he needs a couple more good seasons. Guys with multiple rings along with those other accolades tend to get in.

Love and Lowry are in the same boat. Close, but leaning towards no.

Griffin, Aldridge and Johnson are no

George and Butler are on the outside now, but have time to get there. George a lot more likely than Butler, especially if you add a title to his resume.

A couple things are on Vince’s side:

The epic dunk contest
Longevity. Playing as long as he has is a point in his favor.

1. Vinsanity. Yes. In his prime he was incredible. He played more seasons than anyone else. And I can't think of a player with 25,000+ pts, 6,500 rebs & 4,500+ asts that did get in.

2. Draymond. Possibly. But a longshot right now.

3. Lowry. Yes. Being an important piece to the Raptors title team gets him in. But it won't be anywhere near 1st ballot.

4. Griffin. No.

5. Aldridge. Doubt it. So no.

6. Johnson. No.

7. Love. Super-duper longshot. Gotta say no.

8. Klay. Yes.

9. PG 13. He's on his way. But not quite yet.

10. Dame. Gotta say yes he gets in.

11. Butler. He's heading in that direction.

Yeah I guess I didn't consider Longevity. That works in his favor for sure.

Hall of fame can be weird. Definitely not just about who the best players were. Personality and random accomplishments that boost a player’s popularity count for a lot.

I'd also add that it's the Basketball Hall of Fame, not the NBA Hall of Fame.

You can have a guy who doesn't qualify based on his NBA career, get in because of what he did in college.

Also how they played for team USA or their respective country in the olympics or any other international tournament

I don't even want to go into much. They most all will likely get in. I'm pretty sure strict when it comes to Halls but most all of them have gotten pretty lax to the point where sometimes I don't feel like getting into it. Tonight is one of those times.

For reference, guys that are in the Hall of Fame;

Reggie Miller - 5xAS, 3xAllNBA
Mitch Richmond- 6x AS, 5xAllNBA, 1 title, ROY
Adrian Dantley-6xAS, 2xAllNBA, ROY

Those are similar guys to everyone listed in the OP. Some have surpassed them or are still young enough to do it easily. There's guys like Shawn Kemp (6xAS, 3xAllNBA) that aren't in but its rare.

Yeah, as I pointed out earlier, part of it is that it's the Basketball Hall of Fame, not the NBA Hall of Fame. So guys can get in based on things other than their NBA career or a combination of their NBA career and their college/overseas accomplishments gets them in.

Also, as you point out, there guys with similar numbers that aren't in. It's unfortunate, but some voters can't separate their personal feelings. So, a guy they don't like, a guy who didn't like the press or who was just an asshole, may not get in (or have their induction delayed) despite having the resume to get in.

I could see Blake, LA and Jimmy getting in..maybe even Draymond...looking at the history of guys getting in even those I don't think those guys are HOF talent. Some guys are exceptions though bc of their story and other factors

But do you really have to get your team somewhere though? A title or Finals appearance isn't mandatory.

Lillard is an elite player, you don't have to get to the Finals or win a championship to make the HOF.

For example, Alex English, an elite scorer--averaged 22 ppg for his career. He led his teams to ONE WCF's...never to the Finals. He had one other HOF'r on his team that year as well and he never made a 1st team ALL-NBA.

Lillard has already done the same, led his team to one WCF's. Seems like he is still getting better at 29 and an elite scorer. 1st team ALL-NBA once as well. I would be surprised if he didn't get in if he keeps playing at this level.
