Jordan was a former assistant at Michigan, currently the HC at Butler. Oats has Midwest ties, was the coach at Buffalo the last 4 years and Keatts is at NC State, but was an assistant at UL so he has some Midwest ties. Oats and Keatts are very good recruiters and evaluators.
Oates just signed with Alabama for a 5 year contract recently.

yeah, JB did them zero favors here
Tin foil hat is firmly secured here...

Dan Gilbert, owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers, is a Michigan State fan and alum. He was unable to get Tom Izzo back before LeBron made the Decision to go to Miami.

If you aren’t able to get the coach you want, you can help out your alma mater by grabbing a top 10 CBB coach (and probably the best available) and taking him out of the equation in the conference and state. But if he does it too early, Michigan is able to find a suitable replacement. Instead he waits a ridiculously long time to back the Brinks truck up to a coach who is losing his entire team and has to be thinking about retirement in the near future. Michigan, now rather than recruiting for high end talent, is hunting for a coach hurting them on the recruiting trail with the unknown.

I'm not sure anyone other than a reach on an "up and comer" will put up with living in Harbaugh's shadow. Beilein won a couple conference titles and got no love, while Harbaugh has never played for a title and he is adored.

Yeah I know. Doesn't mean he can't back out though. I'm sure he'd take the UM job over the Bama job in a heart beat.

Possibly. Then again what kind of message does that send to recruits?

Chris Beard did it. And to the recruits that would go to Michigan, probably nothing. He'd either get fired or go to the NBA depending on how he did. Michigan isn't a stepping stone job like Bama is in basketball.

That's what i'm thinking too.

Unless they hit on a hail mary it's going to be a unproven assistant or a guy like LaVelle Jordan (who would be a meh hire IMO)

They fired one of the best coaches in the game. I hope they take a big step back as a result. Bad move in my opinion. Gonna be tough to replace him.

Backing out can work. Worked out for Chris Beard pretty well.

They might hire from within. Really good chance imo.

Beileins assistant knows his defense and I think Jim has advocated for him in the past.

Could be key to trying to keep things stable.
Sadi Washington.

Best Basketball guy in Bronco history.
