Yeah I didn’t understand how they didn’t move on at the end of the season this year.
Because it is WAY more important to the Rooneys to have that aura of only having three coaches since 1969 and not firing coaches. Versus doing what is right to make their team better.

It feels like he's been on the hot seat for 5 years and keeps doing just enough to not get fired.

That is part of the problem. He really isn't on the hot seat.
Status quo is good enough for the organization as a whole.

Keeps making the playoffs with mediocre teams. I don't see coach as their problem.
Yeah I don't feel like doing this dance with Steelers fans again. I'll never understand the anger. The game is all about the quarterback. And they haven't had good quarterback play in like seven years.

It depends on how involved he’s been in directing the choices at the QB position as well as offensive coordinator

He hires his own personal……
Maybe that’s the organizational change that has to happen. They need like an outside audit kind of thing where someone from outside comes in and assesses how the operation is set up and tweak it. I think these guys are available. (Mostly serious until joke at the end).

Rumors starting about jaxson dart. I think they thought they could keep fields cheaper. And he bounced. Then they were exploring a few folks and lost out. Already burned russ …and tomlin loves rodgers so they went there.
Now theyre boned.
Seems like this has been one of most mismanaged off-seasons for you guys. There was a time I thought Seattle could get Dart in the 3rd but seems like he's shooting up the board. You might have to take him in the first round cause I'm not so sure he's there on the turn.

The Steelers don’t have a second round pick, they were smart to snatch up DK with no QB in place or in sight…..

By overpaying for Rodgers they will most likely lose out on their 3rd round compensation pick for next year. That might not seem like much but when you have a heap of a team that extra 3rd round pick could be huge to trade up for better value in the 2026 draft.

Russ is the more logical choice at this point out of the two because of that, have a feeling they burned that bridge. Tomlin better hope Mason Rudolph leads him to a .500 record again. Because so help us all, that is way more important than actually getting a better draft position to fix your team.
I do think Russ is in play unless he went to the owner and demanded coach and GM fired. Extra 3rd rounder is key. I always believed if FO drafts correctly, your R1/R2/R3 picks should be starters. Add in that extra 3rd and you've got 4 starters or 3 starters and a very good role player.

They dug themselves into this hole and I hope it fails miserably.

What will happen if Russ decides to go elsewhere but Rodgers doesn’t go to Pittsburgh? That would be a complete disaster for them. I think Russ and Rodgers are about the same now, and Wilson doesn’t bring the locker room drama Rodgers does, so I don’t get why they don’t just bring Russ back.

Exactly, and they wouldn't lose a good 2026 compensation pick either.

Right now, this is what they are sitting with:
