Still scratching my head as to what the Steelers are doing. But I've seen some reports lately that their was some burned bridges between Wilson & the team. Didn't read any details about it but thought it was interesting when everything prior seemed to indicate the relationship was still good & there was a chance he'd return. The FO & ownership indicated they wanted to keep at least 1 of either Fields or Wilson.

My best guess based on the events that played out is that the Steelers went all in on Fields and ended up souring the relationship with both. They must have felt confident they could low ball Fields and he'd stay. Wilson probably felt slighted by them pursuing Fields more than him, despite saying very early in the offseason that they had begun contract talks. They likely offered Fields the better deal to stay, but still didn't feel he was worth the $20m per season.

Also, Fields still wants to be considered a starter and not just a bridge or a project. If the Steelers wanted to retain him then they obviously failed to make him feel that way.

Well to be fair, at least change is admitting they were wrong... Somethin we are not very accustomed to with this franchise.

They are making a habit out of pissing QBs off though. The decision to grab Wilson & start him caused a lot of butt hurt. Kenny wanted out immediately. Then they benched Fields and that pushed him to want to go to the damn Jets... so here they are... begging an overpriced, drama-hungry, husk of a former MVP caliber QB to come play for the Steelers.

EXACTLY. Browns/Steelers/Titans should've already had him in.

I'm astonished that the Rams were able to re-up with Jimmy G so cheaply given the situation some of these other teams are working with in their QB rooms.

Another good point. Is he basically retired? Nearly forgotten at his own control really.
Last I heard he was contemplating retirement, but his camp indicated that it would take the right team & scenario for him to agree to a deal. And this was after talks with Minnesota about coming in as a backup to McCarthy. Seems like the most ideal landing spot for him, so I'm curious what the holdup is.

Steelers have a starting position up for grabs. Shit coaching staff for a QB though. Not a team contending for anything other than a wildcard spot.
