For me off the top of my head I think of 3 teams
2002 Miami
2005 USC
2011 LSU-say what you want but they blew everyone out and only close games they played were against Bama.

2002 Miami Hurricanes in a landslide.

Yep! One of the best if not the most talented team ever. Had so many future pro-bowlers on that team!

2002 Miami, really? Well they got beat, on the field, ref screw or not. Clearly not the best when they had their chance.

Who qualifies for this? Just looking back 20 years.

2004 Utah 12-0
2006 Boise St 13-0
2008 Utah 13-0
2009 Boise St 14-0
2010 TCU 13-0
2012 Ohio St 12-0

All those teams finished undefeated and didn't get a split or any of the sort. Some will say, Tulane, Marshall, Boise St, Utah, TCU? bleh mid-majors! Hello BYU '84. Not like they would be setting some precedent. That argument holds no weight. TCU and Utah now having found themselves as non mid-majors and BSU is on the cusp so this further adds that they were worthy programs to be selected.

Several of those teams deserve to be labled the best and we could go back another 20 years and find even more. Tough to say. I think 04 Auburn is up there, 94 PSU, 06 Boise, 04 Utah, all solid choices.

Atleast 1 of the past 4 at any rate. You would have a hard time getting odds on that 04 team being able to beat the 09 or 11 squads at Bama. I might go so far as to say the 04 would make a good game against the 12 squad, but I am not conceding defeat.

The homer part in me would have to say the 2005 VT team with MV (the lover of teen women). I think that team would have decimated any other VT team since 99 tho.
