AL: Carlos Correa

Carlos Correa is playing like he's the best SS in baseball. I don't know if he can keep that pace for the rest of this year, but even if he does slow down a bit it should still be enough for ROTY. For him, it seems like that only thing that is debatable is whether he'll win that award by a small margin or a large margin.

==============

NL: Joc Pederson

I figure that Pederson's June/July troubles will pass for August/September - if he doesn't get it together, then it'll go to Kris Bryant. Honestly, it's kind of a four-way tossup between

*Pederson
*Grichuk
*Duffy
*Bryant.

Bryant and Pederson just get so much more press (yeah the voters suck, but it's the reality), and Bryant has been on everyone's radar since Spring Training. I feel like some of those writers will vote Bryant just to defend him as their choice in March. If I'm a gambling man, I put my chips down on Bryant. However, I'm not a gambling man and since all four of those guys are right answers, I have to side with the guy on my favorite team.

Yasmany Tomás deserves some recognition.

Because he's having a solid season. If people are going to be naming 5 or more players in the race I don't see why it is a stretch to say he should be mentioned as well. Not saying he should win.

He's not even the best rookie on his own team.

Jake Lamb and Robbie Ray.
Robbie Ray has only played a portion of the season. Same with Lamb. Yasmany has been fairly consistent the whole season with a .300 avg. ask people who watch the dbacks on a daily basis and they'd say Tomás is having the better season.

Of all NL Rookies, Tomas is 10th in wOBA, 12th in wRC+, 16th in ISO, 10th in SLG, 12th in OBP. This is a guy who doesn't bring any additional value on defense or in baserunning.

I'm happy that you like having him on your team but no, he doesn't belong in the ROTY conversation.

He's pretty much top ten in every category you just mentioned and the all star break was barely two weeks ago. The season doesn't end in July.

Being 10th or worse in the only categories you're worth anything does not get you into the Top 5. If you want to take this time to backtrack and say "I SAID FIVE OR MORE! NOT TOP FIVE!" Then, sure, we can give him a participation trophy for being 25th among all NL rookies* in WAR.

Stop trying to shoehorn your team's replacement-level rookie into this conversation. He doesn't deserve a mention.

*That's just among batters (43rd place if you add in the AL batters). Wanna include pitchers WAR, too? SPOILER ALERT: It gets worse for Tomas.

Lmao! Calm down before you have an aneurism bro. Again it's only July.

Well, the name of the thread does indicate "so far". Not "Who will be by the ends of the season".

As a note, the ROY ballots only have 3 spaces. The NL crop this year is all-time great. Just because you have a good rookie this year does not mean he will be considered this year. The Giants have 2 STUDS this year, and both are on the fringes of even getting any votes this year.

To be somewhat all-inclusive...

3 Pitcher RIGHT now are on the radar...

Heston
DeSclafani
Syndergaard

For hitters...

Bryant
Pederson
Duffy
Grichuk
Franco
Kang

I am not sure that RIGHT NOW anyone else deserves a mention for a 3-name ballot.
