Scott Studwell?

Damn, just realized I typed the wrong first name. Don't know what I was thinking - since I'm not even sure I know a Kurt Studwell.

I love you Brother, but Emmitt was so much better than you give him credit for. If Barry Sanders had played for the Cowboys, he might have had 2400 yards seasons.... but they might not have won 3 rings. Sanders was awesome, but he also had more negative yardage runs while looking for a big play as anyone. A negative 3 run is just like a sack, a drive killer. I don't see Barry ramming into a 9 man front on 3rd or 4th and 1 or goal to go like Emmitt did 75-80 times a year either.

If he played behind that o-line Emmitt had, those negative yards would never be talked about...... Cause they'd be talking about them 2400 yard seasons.....

The stats are good enough, the longevity phenomenal and the character of the players was never in dispute.

Basketball In:
Mark Eaton ( ;) )
Tom Chambers
Alvin Robertson

Out:
Ralph Sampson
Bill Walton

Just a short list.

Ralph Sampson great college career, but after falling in Boston Gardens and being moved over to Power Forward his pro career was not that good.

The Basketball Hall of Fame factors in college play, also. No way you can take Sampson out.

And he gets me lifted.

From 1974 to 1982, Lynn Swann has the 9th most catches and 12th most yards. So, it isn't like his numbers were blowing the socks off other WRs at the time. He retired ranked 62nd in receptions (currently 239th). If Lynn Swann is a HoFer - then Harold Carmichael should have been in decades ago.

Drew Pearson is another WR I would lean toward saying got in on the merit of the exposure he had playing for the team he played for.

He's a HOF'er?

Damn, hes as deserving as Betts.... Which in my mind does not belong.

>edit< Posted before bl admitted a goof.....

No, I had to correct myself after. I thought he was - but he's not. So I had to take him off my list of doesn't belong - because he's not actually there.

Lee Smith

Smith was a pretty shaky reliever who was fortunate enough to start his career right at the time where the role of the closer was diminishing from 2-3 inning appearances down to 1 inning (and hence could pitch in more games), which played a large factor in why he had so many saves. If you look through his seasons, had a good amount of years that were nothing special but he was able to get 30+ saves.

I don't see the fascination that many have with the guy.

It was an exaggeration, but don't you think the best players of an era should be in the HOF... You can easily say Pearson was the best WR of the 70s...

No, I actually don't. What if the era sucked by comparison? What if the player pushed down Nate Wright?

its not like we are talking about the best punter of an era... we are talking about the best WR of an era... WR is one of the most important positions in football... you are not punished for an era, nor should you get rewarded...

Can you name 5 WRs better than him that played in his era??
