Huh.

And here I was thinking he was our best linebacker.

I'm not nearly as big as a fan as others on here. He is pretty terrible in the run game. That said he's definitely better than Bynes.

The award for best DT and TE aren't exactly hotly contested either.

He was one of my top three to resign, but if his agent tries to bleed the Lions, fuck him. He isn't that good.

Update: my Adidas source (ex Bengals scout) says the problem is Whitehead wants to start, the Lions aren't comfortable committing to that, thus the break in negotiations. Quite possible he will test the FA market, and could re up w Detroit if he doesn't find starter money elsewhere.

Take that all w a grain of salt, but that's the rumor he's hearing.

Translation: He wants guarantees he hasn't earned. His level of play isn't that hard to replace. I would rather he stay, but he isn't good enough to get my give-a-shit meter to register.

this part is correct. I posted the Freep link back in mid January or possibly ealier.

I don't get where he passes the eyeball tests for being even remotely close to decent or average when he does drop in coverage.

going to schedule more weekly appointments for the optometrist

With all due respect QJ, I think Bynes was still better last year. Obviously they are moving in different directions though. Whitehead might end up being the better player next year. Regardless, If what swarm states is true then he may not be back because if Levy is even 80% and we draft an LB early, Whithead probably does not start. Both guys are low end starters/ high end backups.

Lions' Whitehead wants to return, but wants to start

Of course, linebacker Tahir Whitehead wants to return to the Detroit Lions. But the unrestricted free agent said one of the most important keys to his decision to sign with the Lions, or any team, would be whether he gets a chance to start.
"Yes, that's definitely one of the big factors because as a player in this league you don't go somewhere or be on someone's team just to be someone's backup," he said today. "You want to go somewhere where you're wanted, where you're needed and you're going to play. So I definitely want to be a starter. I think I've shown that I can be a starter in this league."

Whitehead played poorly against playoff contender teams and shined against shitty teams this past season. A classic case of wanting to get paid to ride the gravy train. But a flash back in time to last year for some of you guys...

Is there a Lion you do like? How do you weigh in on his talent? Because every player was the same for you. At least it seems so, with the shitty team statement being redundant.

Is there a Lion you do like?

Calvin Johnson, Golden Tate, Theo Riddick, Sam Martin, Ezekiel Ansah, Glover Quin and etc...
Zack Zenner from last pre-season, jury is still out on having vision and a play maker during the regular season.

How do you weigh in on his talent? Because every player was the same for you.

Tahir Whitehead I think is underrated, which I believe I stated in another thread somewhere. I think he's a very good special teams player and can fill the void.
