Define great.

OU has finished in the top six in the polls six times over the past ten years.

my definition of 'great' is a team winning it all or at least getting to the championship game. Personally, i feel oklahoma is typically overrated because they rack up a ton of wins in a conference that has a lot of weak programs and they've never even gotten to the championship game recently.

Pretty fair take.

Until Texas can right its ship. Oklahoma in the Big12 is the
one that goes unchallenged.

Only Texas, is in a position to recruit with OU.

Good teams usually win the games they are supposed to win.
Good teams are loaded with talented players.
Good teams will play "flat" one game a year.

The secret to winning is to play flat against a team with no talent.

Here's the recruiting for the teams in the leagues. 2015-2018 Rivals.
(And we haven't seen the 2018 kids on the field yet)

I used 20 as a qualifier for having elite 4 and 5 star players on the roster.

There are 5 schools in the Pac12 with a min of 20 elite athletes
on the roster.

USC 66
UCLA 40
Oregon 33
Washington 29
Stanford 28

Washington and Stanford obviously have the better coaching/development, but USC and even UCLA can play
match them for talent, along with Oregon.

There are 10 schools in the SEC with a min of 20 elite athletes
on the roster.

Bama 75
Ga 64
Auburn 57
LSU 53
Tx AM 46
Tenn 46
Florida 46
So Car 32
Miss 28
Miss St 23

You plsy flat one game in that league and you've got a fight on your hand, because there are teams with the talent to beat you.

The Big10 has 6 teams with a min of 20 elite players on the roster

Ohio St 69
Mich 48
Penn St 46
Neb 25
Mich St 23
MD 20

OSU can recruit and develop their players. Neb and MD can recruit,
but they've been lacking in developing.

However, Mich, Mich St and Penn St can recruit and develop
and compete with OSU because they have a talent level.

In the ACC there are 5 schools with more than 20 elite athletes.

FSU 62
Clemson 46
Miami 43
VPI 23
UNC 23

Dabo is doing a helluva job at Clemson. I could pull up threads
from early last season where I was critical of FSU coaching.

I've always been critical of Fisher. He was a paint-by-the-number
coach. You could read him like a book and the words were written
with foot-tall letters. All that fucking talent and he was just 14-12
vs Top 25 teams. Shit, there was very little development. He can recruit with anybody
but lord does he struggle with x's and o's. The
change can be for the better. (It can't be any worst)

Now comes the Big12. There are only two schools with more than 20 elite athletes on the roster. OU
and Texas.

OU 57
Texas 52

If OU had a DC it would be virtually impossible to beat them in that league. Nobody else would have enough talent to do it, even with a flat game by OU.

Texas...well it's not a secret that there hasn't been
any development at that school in quite some time.
If Herman is the real deal, then maybe OU will be
challenged by them. But until that happens this
is the league where the title is OU's to lose.

Nobody in the Big12 can "beat" OU. OU can "lose"
a game or maybe throw one away, but nobody is gonna "beat" them.

And no Wisconsin.

I went with the ACC because Clemson has clearly been the class of that league the last 3 years. But Oklahoma has been similarly dominant in the Big 12. The difference has been that Clemson has been more impressive overall in the postseason.

The SEC evolved into a 3-team race last year, with Georgia winning the conference, Alabama winning the national title, and Auburn beating both, but losing to LSU & Clemson.

Three different teams have won the Big 10 championship since the playoffs began; and the Pac-12 is either USC & somebody or Washington & somebody, but no real dominant team.
