Boy, you can sure tell the age of folks by which games they are most devastated by. The Green Bay losses barely even register with me, but the younger folks still aren't over them. I think the younger you are, the more pained you are by your team's losses.

You know, Bingo, I as well felt we would beat the Patriots - I felt more certain of that than us beating either the Saints or Giants...

while watching the Ravens game i felt the same. a tough game no doubt, but a >50% chance.

certainly true in my case, YEARS ago i'd be "pained" even after regular season losses. it carried on past my 'young' life cause then we entered the dynasty.

expectations were much higher during the dynasty, so losses were still "pained". its like this season, the more we won the higher expectations climbed.

ha, yeah you definitely can. Its interesting hearing some of the older fans talk about the losses though and how they rank for them.

The 1990 NFC Championship game (played in 1991) will always be tops for me. I was just a kid, and I expected the Niners to win every time. I used to cry when the Niners lost. It's different now that I'm an adult. Though I kinda go back to being a kid during the game, after the game is over, I always come to the realization that it truly is just a game and is meant for our entertainment, win or lose.

But even if the 1990 NFC Championship game happened when I was adult, it would probably still rank as the the most painful, considering that we fumbled away our chance at a threepeat with one of the great all-time teams, all while losing to our hated rivals on 5 field goals and having our beloved Joe Montana get seriously hurt. The Giants were always looking to hurt Joe. Also, I believe that was basically Joe Montana's last game as the Niners starting QB. Sad.

This loss wasn't as bad as the ones in the mid 90's against the Packers. Those were painful to stomach which include: 2 wild card, 1 divisional, and 1 NFC championship if I remember correctly.

What. The. Fuck.

But forget the losses in the playoffs against Brett Favre: What gets me is that the Packers have owned the 49ers in a span of 15 fucking years and counting, posting a 13-1 record.

Surprisingly, I'm not that bitter. Probably because I've been to Wisconsin, which, not surprising, is an absolute piss hole of a state in all aspects.

i wasn't born until 1980 but my dad always talked about that game and he said he would disown me if i ever became a cowboys fan..lol

I understand his feelings. I was born in 1957 and my whole life until 1981 the 49ers made the playoffs three times, 70, 71 and 72 and each year the Cowboys knocked them out. It started my hatred for the Cowboys which has hardly waned over the years. The 90s only made it deeper and more spiteful.

At the top. It hurt a lot. It's weird, the last time I felt this way was losing in the playoffs in high school.

This felt personal. It wasn't just that my favorite team lost, it was the fact that I honestly believed we were the best overall team after beating the Saints.

This loss is right up there in my mind because we should've won this game. Those games in the 90's against the Cowgirls and FudgePackers didn't hurt because we were totally overmatched. Other than the '94-'95 season when they brought in everybody they could to get Young a ring, the 9ers were always the second best team, but that gap between first and second was huge!

I basically grew up in the 80's (graduated HS in '89), and was pretty much spoiled by all the success that the 49ers had. They had a chance to win it all almost every year, it's been a loooong time since I've felt like that. That's why this loss ranks right up there with the Craig fumble for me.

This one hurt so much because they didn't beat our defense at all, yet they leave with the win....

But idk, it's still in the moment with me...

I think my worst loss(as a fan) was when the Yankees lost to the Dbacks in the world series in gm 7, after all those come from behind wins in NY in dramatic fashion...
