I thought the Devils wanted Marty to play his entire career in NJ. If not the Lightning, Capitals & Sharks should definately be interested.
Oh please GOD no! Have you actually watched Brodeur in the playoffs since 2003? Everybody deifies Brodeur, but the facts are, the guy has had some amazing defensemen and defensive-minded forwards and defensive coaching schemes his entire career. Once guys like Scott Stevens and Scott Niedermeyer disappeared, so did Marty once the 2nd season rolled around. No offense to Marty, he's a sure fire, first ballot HOF'er and one of the best goaltenders of all time.....that cannot be denied. That said, the guy is not as great as everybody makes him out to be. The Sharks would be acquiring him for his "playoff clutchness".....well, the Sharks don't have a Scott Stevens or a Scott Niedermeyer so.....now let's look at his playoff career since 2004:
2004: 1W - 4L - 2.62GAA - .902S% (0 Playoff Rounds Won)
2005: DNP
2006: 5W - 4L - 2.25GAA - .923S% (1 Playoff Round Win)
2007: 5W - 6L - 2.44GAA - .916S% (1 Playoff Round Win)
2008: 1W - 4L - 3.19GAA - .891S% (0 Playoff Rounds Won)
2009: 3W - 4L - 2.39GAA - .929S% (0 Playoff Rounds Won)
2010: 1W - 4L - 3.01GAA - .881S% (0 Playoff Rounds Won)
That kind of futility makes the Sharks recent playoff success (or lack thereof) look like the Oilers of the 80's. In my opinion Marty Brodeur is just a very good goalie who played on some great teams. At one point in his career, he may have been able to carry a team like the current Sharks to a Stanley Cup.....at this point, he's a shell of his former self. So the Sharks get his inflated contract for this year and next year when they have close to ZERO cap room AND they have to give the Devils good young talent??? PASS.
