I heard they are going to trade Marty straight up for Avery?

All the fans are waving their hands in the air on this news.

I'd trade him, get more skilled forwards, actually build around Kovalchuk and adopt a more up tempo style.
Either way he isn't what he once was, and the team doesn't look close to being a contender so it might help to move him.

I thought the Devils wanted Marty to play his entire career in NJ. If not the Lightning, Capitals & Sharks should definately be interested.

San Jose just signed both their goalies in the off season, I doubt they make a move in net.

However, if they have a #2 dman they are looking to move I am sure Doug Wilson will be all ears.

Are you saying you wouldn't put Niemi in a package to acquire Brodeur?

He may not be the same goalie he once was but I bet if he was given a chance at another cup run he'd be better than the two guys SJ has right now.

He would absolutely be better than what San Jose has now. But no I would not trade for him. This team needs help on D way more than it needs an upgrade to it's netminder.

Plus I am sure they wouldn't just give up Broduer for just Niemi, I wouldn't be willing to trade young talent (which the Sharks don't have much of) for an aging goalie. That move would hamstring the team and leave them with no cap space (or assets) to make any other moves this year.

If San Jose wanted to pay 5+ mil for a goalie they would have re-signed Nabby.

Well right now Nabby is waiting for an offer. Kiprusoff would look real good in a Sharks jersey right now wouldn't he??:D

One of the reasons Nabby is waiting for an offer is because he has to clear waivers. Teams are skeptical about signing him to a deal that would be expensive enough that he wouldn't be claimed.

And I don't like to talk about the Kipper deal :(

Any team that signs Nabby will probably talk to Garth Snow first. The Isles have plenty of cap space & can simply claim him & say which goalie do you want Roloson or Nabokov, especially with Red Light Ricky on IR right now.

cant say i want brodeur to go he definately seems to want to finish his career with new jersey and i would hate to see him in any other uniform.dont get me wrong hes not the same as he was before his injury a few years ago but his numbers this year dont do him justice.Allot of his numbers are just as much a reflection on the play of the team.I think if he did get traded it would have to at the very least be to a contending team or i couldnt see him waiving his NTC.And if it did happen i could see him paying dividends.dont want it to happen would never think it would happen but then again i never thought montreal would trade Roy either.

I don't see Marty actually going anywhere. The guy is an legend and he should stay in New Jersey. Roy was a different situation, I don't think that Marty wants to go anywhere.

How does Nabby have to go through waivers? I thought he was a UFA and signed in the KHL? Can someone explain?

Any player who started the season playing in a professional league overseas will have to go through waivers unpon returning to the NHL.

So even if Nabby is willing to sign a one year 2.5-3 million dollar contract with Washington (for example), Tampa would be able to claim him off of waivers. So the question becomes is there a team out there who is willing to either:

-sign him to a contract rich enough that another team won't claim him
or
-take a chance on signing him to a cheap short term deal, possibly have him claimed, and let you current goaltending know that you were trying to replace them.

Last season doesn't make up for all of the years of losing to that mans sickening skill.

lol I cannot tell you how many times over these many years playing against the Devils and him that I wished serious bodily harm to happen to that guy! :D

in answer to the original question:

the brodeur gone rumours started as soon as the $9-10 million per year long term Kovalchuk deal rumours started.
