When all else fails, what do you grab in your tackle box?

I'm itching to go fishing and for all this damn snow to go away, in the mean time I guess I'll have to settle for talking about it.

Now, you may laugh, but my go-to lure is actually the Banjo Minnow (as seen on TV).

Growing up we had two lakes in our subdivision (big lakes). All summer I would fish with my friend who lived on my street. One day he brought out one of these and I laughed at him. The classic as seen on TV gimmicky thing that really doesn't work like it does on TV.

Well, we were fishing that day and I specifically remember there was this huge bass just sitting on it's nest and I was throwing everything I had at it -- nothing. He came over with the Banjo Minnow, threw it right over the fish and BAM got it on 1 cast. I was sold. I've been using them for about 15 years now and they're still the best lure in my box. I try other things just to be different but ultimately, when things seem slow, I pop one of these on and soon enough I'll get a fish.

Also, my brother and I just booked a trip to go back up to Tippy Damn (west side of northern Michigan) to go fishing again this year; I'm pumped. Here's some pictures I took last year:

My uncle brings his boat and docks it right at the bottom of the hill in the 2nd picture. It's pretty fing amazing. Wake up, walk down the hill -- go fishing all day.

when bass fishing and they won't touch anything else, these work damn near every time. You may have to deadstick it and it's slow fishing but they will bite it.

note: I've never used "smoke." I almost always use black or watermelon seed.

I love Yamamotos. I like the white ones. I usually put a weighted hook on those and use them for rivers that are 15-20 feet deep and a lot of logs. That way I can make them weedless and they plink around the bottom.

I fish them weightless and weedless. I normally use a 3/0 or 5/0 hook, texas rigged. Cast it to my target and let it fall. Wait until I'm sure it's on bottom and has been there for a few seconds or more. Then give it a short hop and let it sit again. Repeat that about 2 or 3 times and reel it in. Sometimes when that doesn't work, I'll cast it and just let it sit for painfully long times. At least it seems like a long time. Just let it sit there for a minute or 2. maybe shake it and let it sit some more. Again, these are tactics I use when they just won't hit anything else.

Jigging is the best technique there is in fishing, regardless of species or tackle.

I go 12 seconds in between pops(obviously, water conditions, depth, speed, etc., can change this) but in general, that's a good rule of thumb.

NW steelhead rig...no pics, cuz it's ALL mine when fishing the upper Clackamas and below River Mill Dam. Deadly down on the coastal rivers as well.

THIS ONE is for you Mamba! :suds:

12lb Trilene leader with a medium0, egg-looped tied, lazar sharpened hook. Thread on a small DARK BLUE bead above the hook and then a red BIRDIE drifter on top of that (use "glo-in-the-dark", camera flash charged BIRDIE drifter @ early and late dusk light). Insert small amount of fuzzy WHITE YARN on egg loop no longer than length of hook used.

I have caught hundreds of "steelhead" fish on this setup. The "flash charged" one is lethal right before dark.

GL and get READY!

Spend another 10K and remember...10% of the fisherman catch 90% of the fish.

Armed with that info your well on your way to success.:gaah:

Got to go on a guided trip on the Clackamas. Beautiful country. Only problem was, the guide was a lazy turd that spent more time picking my brain regarding my respective field than he did fishing. I didn't have to pay for it, so it was still fun, but we didn't catch shit. I was told not to bring my own gear and regretted it. I did catch some decent steelhead on the Wilson river and my first and only sturgeon on the Columbia.
