Post up what your off season plans for your favorite team would be, if you were sitting in the hot seat.

SABRES

Start off by letting M. Ellis, P. Lalime, H. Tallinder, T. Lydman, and R. Torres goto UFA and walk

Send Qualifying offers to M. Weber, M. Gragnani, T. Kennedy, and P. Kaleta

SendC. Butler, A. Sekera, and T. Kennedy to the minors to start the season and bring M. Gragnani, M. Weber, and T. Ennis up to the NHL.

Resing A. Mair to a 3 year $0.85 million contract.

This will put the Sabres at 46.62 million commited to next years cap. Assuming they don't spend to the top of the cap and only spend the same as last year, 56.06 million, they have 9.44 million left to sign 1 D-man, 1 Forward, and a backup goalie

Sign M. Biron to a 1 year 1.5 million contract. This will get a solid backup in place and allow us to keep Enroth in the minors and sign him to a smaller contract next year than we would be able to if he came up to the NHL this year.

Sign P. Kubina to a 2 year 4.5 million contract. This will cement us with another solid D-man, and a powerplay QB. It will also free him up off of our Salary when we need to resign Myers.

With your remaining cash sign either A. Tanguay or L. Stempniak to a 3-4 year deal worth 3.0 Million per season.

This will give you about .5 million of cushion space before you even hit what the sabres spent last year and will give you the following lines

T. Vanek D. Roy J. Pominville
J. Hecht T. Connolly L. Stempniak or A. Tanguay
M. Grier T. Ennis D. Stafford
A. Mair P. Gaustad P. Kaleta

Defense
T. Myers P. Kubina
S. Montador C. Rivet
M. Weber M. Gragnani

Golies
THE MILLER
M. Biron

1. Rebuild our 3rd line with size and toughness. We need a checking line.
2. Go with our youth on the 4th line.
3. Add depth to our defense and improve our top 4.
4. Give Luo more time off during the regular season. (Schneider should do this)

Mair is gone, and they are letting go of either Tallinder or Lydman, not both.

I also say keep Kennedy in the lineup.

And they are most likely going to keep Lalime.

EDIT: And yes I read the thread title.

Kind of agree with this, however, if some legit 2nd line scoring can be added, Kesler and Burrows can go back to being the 3rd line checking line.

WASHINGTON:

Sign Willie Mitchell for 2-3 years

or

Sign Andy Sutton for 1 year

and sign a decent second line center for no more than two years....

bank the cap space until March rolls around and THEN make your moves....

Regiers latest comments point to the more than likely possibility that both tallinder and lydman are going to walk.

Rumor has it they are both asking somewhere just south of 4 million per season for no less than 3 seasons.

That kind of money and length of contract will not work for the sabres, either in the short or long term. Assuming we only spend to 56 million again this season, we don't have the cap to sign one of them and the money would be better spend on a D-man who can contribute on the powerplay. Also, we need whoever we signs contract off the books by the time Myers needs to be resigned because he is most likely going to cost us a pretty penny.

Things change fast. I was just reading how the Sabres were talking about only keeping 1 of them because even the Flyers had interest in them but said most likely only 1 would hit the market.

OT: But do you really think that that stupid amount of money is going to be thrown around this FA period? I mean if Hank and Toni are worth 3.5-3.8 for 3 years what are the better FA going to fetch?

EDIT: And yes I read the thread title.

I also agree Adam Mair is gone. He shouldn't have even been on the roster to finish last season. He was waived and then ended up playing the rest of the year from that point on.

I'd take Ellis over Mair.

I also think one of the two UFA dmen will stay. Three year deals worth $3.5 a year.

I don't think there is any chance BOTH Sekera and Butler sit the start of the season for Gragnani and Weber. But Weber has a great shot to start the season to fill in for one of the departing d-men.

Then it will be interesting to see if that extra spot left open goes to another UFA d-man. Rivet will miss the start of the season. If they are high on a guy like PAul Martin, though, or possibly Mark Streit, than both Lydman and Hank will have to move.

Also, I think they will sign a second/third line center. Madden, Koivu, Cullen?
As well as a winger. Another depth guy. I mean, the Sabres surely aren't doing anything spectacular IMO.

And I also think Lalime is gone. It would be an outrage to the fans if he got another year. Passing up Biron yet again would be foolish. However, Regier could care less what any fans think.

Kennedy re-ups and stays up. I was a Kennedy hater last season, but I think if he's thrown into a more offensive role, he will do fine. Kaleta will sign, too.

Ennis will stay.

Lalime wants to stay, and after that speech Miller made when accepting the Vezina, I don't see him leaving.

We can keep him cheap and keep Miller playing around 70 games a year.

It's not perfect, but when is it ever?

Again, you did this before, you either extremely underestimate the player value or over estimate it.

Why in the world would Kubina take a 50 percent pay cut? I don't understand why in the world you would think that. He made five mil the last few seasons and he had nearly 40 points last year on the Thrashers. Not to mention that cap did go up.

Everyone knows that's going to affect the FA market. Yes, that means Tallinder and Lydman are most likely due for raises. Especially Hank.

And then you have Alex Tanguay more than doubling his salary from last season where he scored maybe 15 goals.

EDIT: Tanguay had 10 goals.

As a Bruins fan, I'm happy with what they did in the draft and I think Horton could be a good pick up. Lets see what happens between now and the season.

Would you rather have Cheechoo than McGinn? I like Cheech and all but I think I would rather have him start his comeback elsewhere.

I do like the upgraded defense, I would rather see that then picking up a vet goalie. Unfortunately I think Doug will do the opposite.

Flames:

Sutter appears to be clearing the deck to land some kind of big fish (Spezza, Brad Richards, Jeff Carter, Kovalchuk)

There are three untouchables on this team as far as I'm concerned: Iggy, Kipper, and JayBo. I don't want to see Backlund traded, but I have a feeling GMs will want him included.
