Aside from K.C. and Wisconsin, do you guys see any other markets in the U.S.? Possibly Vegas? I'd love to see hockey back here in CT, ain't gonna happen in this sesspool called Hartford.

Vegas has been a hot topic for a while but it really is not big enough to support a pro team. It has a very transient population. I could see a team in Seattle maybe.

I was going to say Seattle as well. For a city that hasn't been mentioned before in these discussions, how about Boise, or Salt Lake City?

Don't you think Vancouver pretty much owns Seattle though as far as a fan base goes?

Boise would be interesting. The Steelheads I think have a good pull in the ECHL. I dont pay much attention to that league though.

The top three locations for me are Wisconsin, Winnipeg and Quebec.

Boise no, Salt Lake, maybe.. I still think Wisconson would be a good fit, There would def have to already be a big sports fanbase otherwise it will never pick up. The only other thing would be to find cities with large markets yet no real pro sports. Portland maybe, something like that..

Here's what I don't understand, if these place couldn't support hockey last time whats different now? Enlighten me please..

I think they have the fan base, and its like a you dont know what you have till its gone type thing. People of CT would kill to have a NHL team back now. We had a crazy turnout for that outdoors AHL game, even though it was fucking arctic and cold out (my hands literally were blue). But we are completely surrounded by teams, I dont see it lasting here. Quebec seems like a very passionate fanbase, and Winnipeg seems to working pretty damn hard to get NHL back there.

... and they would do a lot better than FLA and ATL. I think we all can agree on that.

Maybe, maybe not. I'm sure some of it was ownership/financial. I would still like to see Wisc get one first. Try somewhere it hasn't been yet.

I'm with ya, thats why I listed them first. A team in Wisconsin would be awesome, they definitely deserve it and have the fans for it.

Where is seattle gonna play?

I don't see it as a hockey market and no jeff sly vancouver doesn't have a lock on that market. Canucks get 0 tv coverage down there even though we are so close in distance

So if that was the major issue then where does it leave things today. It couldn't have been all money related though.

Its a complete fallacy to even say there wasa lack of fan support in winnipeg and quebec city...

The issue was financial ... Paying players is us dollars while collecting revenue in cdn dollar

If anything corporate support was questionable and still could be but they already lost there team once and I think the entire winnipeg populace would jump on board to not let it happen again

Afterall this is a hockey market ... Not a shit market like atlanta

Why didnty anyone ask "what's changed ?" Before they decided to expand to atlanta

Winnpieg will have a team by the start of 2011-12 season

i think it was a combination of a smaller market and the exchange rate.. when i looked it up a while back (same concerns you had) i was pretty convinced that they could try again.. but the exchange rate hurt them at the ticket booth, and the smaller market made it more difficult when it came to ratings, and that hurt the advertisement money

i believe winnepeg was like top 10 in attendance when they moved? if i'm not mistaken?

for me.

phoenix goes back to winnepeg
florida goes to green bay/seattle
atlanta goes to london, ontario (i dont like quebec and their frenchiness :))

divisions would need realigned, and i think they should move away from conferences, go on divisions, and have a 16 seed tournament, instead of 2 8 seeds..

divisions:

Clarke division
:peace:
flyers
pens
caps
rangers
isles
devils

Howe Division
leafs
bruins
thrashers (london)
habs
sens
sabres

Orr Division
wings
coyotes (winnepeg)
hawks
panthers (GB)
wild
avs

Gretzky Division

blues
preds
bolts
stars
canes
jackets

Richard Division
nucks
flames
oilers
kings
ducks
sharks

top 2 in each division go, with the top 5 seeds being the division winners.. final 6 spots are 'wild cards'
