They would have to package big leaguers like Taijuan Walker and Kyle Seager. I can't think of any team besides maaaybe the Cubs or, to a lesser extent, the Mets who might have a prayer of making a trade for Sale without crippling their own club in the process.

The Braves could do it but it wouldn't be helpful for them at all.
There was a time when Walker was excellent trade bait, but I'm pretty sure that has passed.

IMO, unless you are damn sure, close to almost 100% confident that you are going to win the WS this year, then trading for Sale just doesn't make sense. It's going to take at least 4, and maybe 5 players to get him. You will absolutely cripple your farm system. You better be prepared to write Sale a massive check in 3 years.

Agree, because he was mentioned in every damn trade rumor for like a year and half.

having them both would be ideal... He has somewhat turned it around (by his standards) and the offense has just let him down.
If the BoSox traded for Sale, they would be keeping Price, I'm sure. It just doesn't make sense for the ChiSox to get Price back in a deal like that, and it wouldn't make sense for the BoSox to give up a massive trade (it would not be an even swap, Boston would need to sweeten the deal) that wouldn't necessarily improve the current situation.

Like, yeah, all things equal anyone would prefer Sale to Price right now, but the gap between the two in terms of impact on a franchise is not that big. Neither one is a bad choice at the top of a rotation.

Same for the O's. :hurt:
Yep. Tigers too.

Selling Price, Ceapedes and Soria at the deadline brought a lot of young talent back, but not enough for Sale imo. Well, maybe. If they threw Castellanos in there too.

Prying Quintana away would make a lot more sense for teams.

I would certainly hope they would have. However I would think the White Sox would want something like Price in return. But I highly doubt this will ever happen, so it doesn't really matter at this point, just a pipe dream but I would love him on the Red Sox.

Well, Texas may just pull the trigger. Holland and Lewis are joining Darvish on the DL.

Cubs? Kris Bryant, Wilson Contreras and Duane Underwood.

Bryant's only 24, won't be a FA until 2022, and is already playing at an MVP caliber level. He isn't going anywhere.

It would require the buying team to give up so much MLB talent that they would not be able to compete after the trade.

Therefore, the Sox will not be able to get proper TALENT back in a trade. They could, however, get a nice prospect package AND a Brinks truck.

I think they'd be more inclined to trade for Odorizzi or Pomeranz.

That said, I agree with fordman that I'd rather go all in on Fernandes if Texas is offering that kind of package. Partly because I don't like trading a haul like that to another AL team. That package would start with Gallo, Profar, and Tate. Probably Brinson too. They can't have Mazara.

But he's exactly the type of player that Sale would cost.

And exactly why he will not be dealt mid-season. Any contending team would need to blow up their core to wrest him from the Sox.

Wholeheartedly agree. The cost is just way too high for it to work for anyone.
