Trent Murphy Will Use Offseason To Get 'Lean And Quick'

some in the organization say bulk up and play DE , , he is thinking quick and lean

my question is if /when we sign gallette what is murphy's role ? he has some good features in the run game and he gets a ton of pressures and hurries . PFF had him as our highest graded OLB which surprised me . he does a lot of little things that dont get noticed

IF we do sign Gallette, I would try to trade him. He would basically have no playing time as the 4th OLB unless a injury happens. IF he fetches a 3rd or 4th round pick I say we take it.

A third rounder? Where do I sign? I think we'd jump at that. Remember that Murphy wasn't a Scotty pick, he was a Bruce Allen guy. I wonder, however, if we could move him inside.

i would say bulk him up and play him some on the d/line in passing situations. i would keep him because that rotation of OLBS would be good very good and it is insurance against injury

i dont think he has a huge market in a trade

Do you think he can cover a TE down the seam? He would have to do that if he moves inside.

He isn't quick enough sideline to sideline to move to ILB. You keep him as a fourth OLB because Galette and PS can't play RKs side.

I think speed is an issue as far as playing ILB. He ran a 4.86 in the combine. Pretty slow for ILB.

Just keep him as quality depth. Dont need to change anything.

LAst I checked, if you are planning to run a high pressure atacking style defense, you need a few things.

1. Good pass rushers
2. DEPTH!!!

If Murphy can start getting home, why on earth would we trade him?? Forget injury concerns which every team needs to be mindful of. Why would we NOT want to keep him around even if we resign Gallette?? Having Kerrigan, GAllette, Smith and Murphjy would tend to be a solid rotation.

If we need a DE, we should go get a DE and stop with this switching guys up talk. And no you dont trade him because you then end up needing to replace him any wayu.

Wikipedia has his Combine 40 at 4.72.

That's fine, I am sure that is what he ran when Wikipedia timed him. I used his time from the combine prior to him being drafted.

I am sure if we searched we would find other 40 times for him.

Wikipedia reflects that his Combine 40 time was 4.72. That's what I meant. I'm taking them at their word, though sometimes their word isn't too good.

Yeah, I looked up two additional sites. CBS Sports @ 4.85 and Bleacher Report @ 4.86 reported as his combine time. Additionally CBS Sports reported a workout (non Combine) time @ 4.82. Like I said if we researched more we might find other times. These guys often go to track coaches in an effort to improve their 40 times after posting a time. My nephew did it while being recruited by colleges.

I use Wiki for a lot of things but maybe someone had a typo, not to mention they aren't always accurate as you mentioned.

I will say this: the guy looks slow. Not sure what to make of him and what to do about him. According to gkekoa, PFF ranks him pretty high, but I'm not sure I'm a big believer of that service. (Two years ago, it had Tyler Polumbus as one of the best RTs in the game.)

With Gallete added I think he fits find into a rotation of 4 guys. I don't think there is any need to do anything with him. I'd like to see a stud ILB though.

Wait so If a team offers a 3rd or 4th round pick for Murphy you guys are saying the Skins should turn it down?

To what end? You'd just have to take that pick and draft his replacement who may not be as good.

I swear, it seems like some people have gotten so used to Draft and free agency being the only REAL time of excitement for Skins fans.... they dont know what to do when we actually HAVE some players worth building around except consider trading them to get MORE draft picks and free agents.
