Sellout tonight against the Oil. They were getting 10k during football season against the Sharks. It's a bit odd, but this is a hockey town. Viewing parties for away games. Youth and rec hockey is huge. More than a hundred are showing up to watch practice regularly. I was a High School game on friday night that was standing room only.

that's a heck of a good sign.

If we're defining bandwagon as I define it (people who pretend they know everything about the team, but really just watch when someone else turns it on...), the Pens are probably around 30-40%. Mostly because my demographic is where they all are...teenage girls.

must.... resist.....

Oh, also, my assessment of the percentage of bandwagon Penguins' fans falls somewhere in the 0 - 100% range.

Hypnotist: You are all very good players
Team: We are all very good players.
Hypnotist: You will beat Shelbyville.
Team: We will beat Shelbyville.
Hypnotist: You will give 110 percent.
Team: That's impossible no one can give more than 100 percent. By definition that's the most any one can give.

Apparently you don't remember the NHL Network commericials from a few seasons ago with the coach givining motivational speeches.

You should have said 0-110% range, as it sounds better and it covers future Pens fans as well...

I forgot my confidence interval. My confidence is only 90%, so 110% is allowed. Also, -10% is a possibility.

I like the idea of negative percentages. Is that like the case of the Yotes, a Jets fan in the Peg waiting for them to move back would count as a negative percentage component?

Naturally. We've already seen them in effect when the North Stars left Minnesota.

Also, 3300!

The Islanders really haven't given any fans a reason to join them. If you're an Islanders fan it's because you like the team or maybe you enjoy being miserable. You know what they say misery loves company.:D

Our style of play pre lockout made it real hard on acquiring bandwagon fans .even with success you had to be a serious hockey fan to stay awake through the trap.seriously we did squire some bandwagon fans when kovy arrived but most of them have left the building.I remember one guy after proceeding to drool over kovalchuk to his girlfriend tell her 23 is one of the best centers in the league his name is Scott gomez.I did enjoy his girlfriend asking if gomez changed his last name to Clarkson when he git in a fight a few minutes later.

To be honest, Wings probably is at about 20%. They've been so good for so long, I'm guessing a stretch of a few years missing the playoffs would literally see that many drop off.

The younger crowd has moved to the Tigers. Even when they are mediocre, a Tiger game is cheaper and people love to sit outdoors and drink.

I agree keny, success raises the bar for fans expectations and it makes the regular season no big deal. I still feel the Wings have some good fans.
