I think I’m more of a pitching dork (in reality probably both, but for the sake of discussion slight edge to pitching), but just seeing the out pitch on 17 batters doesn’t really demonstrate the beauty of pitching to me, much of which lies in sequencing and setups. And on the other hand, Miggy hits are poetry in motion, plain and simple.

Yeah, I'd go
1. Hitting
2. Pitching

3. Fielding

Hitting and pitching are very borderline to me. What would I rather see, Aaron Nola strike out 12 batters or Maikel Franco hit two home runs? Probably the latter, but I find a lot of pleasure in both.

I will say this. When looking at old footage of players, it's much more fun to watch pitchers. I'd take watching Juan Marichal over Reggie Jackson any day.

Probably pitching. Watching a pitcher pitch to pitch and try to think along with him is one of my favorite parts of watching the game. I wasn't an overpowering pitcher by any means when I played, so my game was all about being able to locate my pitches, and being able to set a batter up. I like being in control of the situation and hitting just felt too defensive for me at times. Very few hitters have the ability to set up a pitcher. Adrian beltre comes to mind, but he's definitely in the minority.

I love all 3 aspects, but I think I may appreciate defense. Seeing a CF run a mile and end up sprawling to make a snow cone catch is absolutely beautiful.

Anyone can run into a pitch and put it over the wall. Any pitcher can strike out a batter. Not every player can make a diving snow cone catch.

They can? Damn, I've been missing out on millions of dollars all this time assuming I couldn't hit 50 home runs a year

Shit, I can hit a 90 MPH fastball over 300 feet? Sweet!
Yes. It is possible.

However, it is IMPOSSIBLE for me to sprint 30 yards and dive to make a snow one catch.

I find both very unlikely, but actually I would think the fielding part would be easier. No offense but I doubt either of us could even catch up to a 75 MPH fastball

I likely couldnt do either...

But really, that gets away from my original point. You and I are not MLB athletes. We are keyboard-jockeys.

Ryan Vogelsong hit a HR last year. So did Jake Peavy. Vince Coleman hit a few in his day.

How many times has Mark Trumbo run 30+ yards and made a diving snow cone catch?

I guess I lean toward pitching. Being a Braves fan, watching Maddux, Glavine and Smoltz pitch 30+ times a year really gave me an appreciation for the subtleties of pitching. Especially the way Maddux and Glavine went about their craft.

I love watching a pitcher's duel.

Tough choice since one without the other two is pretty useless, but I chose defense/fielding.

I rooted for the Orioles when I was younger as long as the Red Sox were out of it and what sticks out most to me about them was defense and one guy in particular; Brooks Robinson. It left enough of an impression on me that I have a 28 yr old son named Brooks :thumb:

I've seen a few good catches from Pat Burrell in my day, so I'm really open to anything (no homo)

And when Kevin Mitchell makes a great bare-handed catch, it remains on highlight reals 30 years after the play. Don Robinson hitting a HR does not.

Yeah so? They play fucking Intentional Talk and High Heat all the time on MLBN. It doesn't mean it's good, or stimulating, or interesting, or worth anything

I am a hitting dork, mainly because I see so damned little of it since Tony Gwynn played.
