Kill rivalries also.

Not sure Udud would have made it back to the PAC yet after their 0-12 season.

Yep.

Hell, if we had relegation a decade ago, I'm not sure South Carolina would have ever made it back to the top tier. Spurrier definitely would not have taken a coaching job at a lower-tiered school.

First, the teams that would have been relegated after last season with Sagarin rankings

ACC: Wake Forest #125
Big 12: Iowa State #105
B1G: Purdue #99 (they lost the tie-breaker with Indiana)
PAC: Colorado #98
SEC: Vandy #120

Second, conference winners of the non-P5 conferences with W-L record and Sagarin rankings
AAC: Memphis 10-3, #39
C-USA: Marshall 13-1, #23
Indy: BYU 8-5 #56
MAC: Northern Illinois #72
MWC: Boise State 12-2 #36
Sun Belt: Georgia Southern 9-3 #63

The swaps I would do:

The ACC would lose #125 Wake and gain #23 Marshall. The ACC is currently the weakest P5 conference and Marshall is a decent geographic fit.

The Big 12 would lose #105 Iowa St and gain #36 Boise St.

The B1G would lose #99 Purdue and gain #39 Memphis

The PAC would lose #98 Colorado and gain #56 BYU

The SEC would lose #120 Vandy and gain #63 Georgia Southern.

The P5 conferences would all get a slight upgrade. And the teams that were relegated could come back if they won their new conferences.

Of course, The Football League is professional sports. College football is not supposed to be.

This is interesting. tOSU plays NIU the 3rd game of the season. I am curious how they will do and are they more competitive than Purdue.

I would say no. Purdue still has to have a depth advantage over directional Illinois schools, don't they?

DON'T THEY?!?!

The teams don't all play each other. Useless idea.

You would think they SHOULD. But with that said Northern Illinois curb stomped Purdue by like 30 in 2013. I don't even know if Purdue would have a .500 conference record the last two seasons if they were hypothetically in the MAC.

Well, they've had a good run. Like one of those articles said, "some of these teams are in the better conferences because they made the right friends 80 years ago."

Ya got me curious. so I busted out da wiki:

Purdue has won 8 Big Ten championships, 7 of them have been shared. The lone, outright title was in 1929. The last shared title was 2000, when Joe Tiller was corching and some dude named Brees was QB. They went to the Rose Bowl that January and lost to U-Dub.

Agreed, you can probably say that about Purdue, Indiana, Minnesota, Northwestern and Illinois. All those programs have been awful the last quarter century. Maryland and Rutgers made friends just two years ago though. :dhd:

2000 was such a great season as a fan for me.

Oregon, OSU, and UW all tied w/ 7-1 conference record.

UO beat UW
UW beat OSU
OSU beat UO

Oregon lost at Wisky so they got the Holiday bowl while Ducks rivals got Rose: UW and OSU got a BCS Fiesta vs ND. All three PAC teams won

I wish it was still to where these three were battling for PAC supremacy. Talk about an INTENSE PNW

Oregon wanted that RB vs Brees and Purdue badly.

But the Beavs denied Joey and the Ducks in the CW from the outright PAC title and RB berth.

In before @mrwallace2ku comes in with the "oh Joey 5 picks game".

The BCS the end of that year was such a cluster fuck. I'm not so sure Washington didn't deserve a chance to play for the title.

Given the premise of the OP included geography, these pairings make better sense than alternatives -
SEC-Sunbelt
ACC-AAC
