I walk away from this draft with the belief the Lions did a good job but it had the potential to be great.

I like Tomilson and think he will be a very good guard. But I thought a OT after getting a tackle was the smarter move.

Abdullah was a solid pick, maybe a little high but a solid pick for a team wanting to improve the running game. But I thought Coleman was the better back and has a better upside. Abdullah seems more like a specialist than an all purpose back. But we should have seen this coming. Mayhew has always liked the home run hitters or the guy that can take it to the house anytime he touches the ball. Abdullah is actually a little slower version of Best without the concussions.

Not a huge fan of the 3rd round DB. Looks to project as a safety. But I can say ok by getting Diggs. He looks to be a guy that can develop into a slot CB.

Liked the trade to get a DT. Just not sure he was the best DT for the Lions.

Mayhew may have the last laugh and his picks will be great. I just don't think he gets the benefit of the doubt when looking at his overall track record. I always get the feeling he wants to show the world he is the smartest guy at the draft and goes outside the box to often.

QUOTE]I like Carter. He is a press coverage guy with an amazing vertical. In the age of giant receivers he could be invaluable near the goal line.

Which is why coaching is involved. Coaching can clean up techniques and help to develop these kids. I really don't think Schwartzs crew was good at that. Can't say this group is or is not, yet.

The only one to show much last year was Austin. Seemed to really help Slay possibly. Then to put other guys in because of injuries looked as him and his guys coached them up or understands his players and how to put em position to succeed.

This also another reason why pundits call picks a reach. It is their defense mechanism for saying I was completely wrong on my evaluation.

Because if Laken was a reach then why in the hell was he invited to the draft to be backstage? Don't say it is because Winston and Mariotta where not there, as there were more than 32 there.

Dont be fooled man, they knew Tomlinson would come off the board early.

The thing with Carter is that he will be brought along slowly.

Many in here would be bitching up a storm based on that summary of him. Turns out, with the right coaching and his own work ethic, he became arguably the best CB in the league.

Our defensive coaching IMO will turn many of the current and past picks into better players.

I don't see anyone bitching about Quandre Diggs :noidea:

You can't teach speed, size, intelligence, strength, character, athleticism, and desire. You can't teach a kid that smoking pot right before the draft is a bad thing, it's common sense.

All prospects will get coached when they get to their team. People believe that it's just one or two guys that will get coached up. Abdullah will be coached up the same way that Coleman will or Todd Gurley will. It's the intangibles the coaches and management see.

No one is saying Tomilson isn't going to be a good player I think the majority believe he will. The same way Humphries, Scherf, and Peat will be as well.

It's about the importance of a position and the needs. It's about what the player brings to the table and are they able to raise their ceiling.

I have got to believe one of the most important qualities the Lions were looking for was character. And intelligence was a very close second. Can't argue one bit. And if the Lions knew that Coleman may have a charter flaw or intelligence problem than Abdullah was definitely the right pick. I remember Gholston when the Jets took him out of OSU. I heard he was as dumb as dogs hit. The guy was out of pro football quickly.

This could be Mayhew's redemption draft. It has potential. I think Lions fans can say regardless of what they think, and yes it's opinion and way to many think only one opinion should ever be put forth, if the draft pans out everyone is happy.

Give it time.

Yeah i guess i can see your point we'll develop him and in 4 years he'll sign a 3y/9m dollar contract with the Packers. I'm sure i'll be one of them :tsk:
