What does it mean!?!

It means they're champs.

Who cares who was "best"? If you don't win the tourney, you ain't the best.

For real, how the hell is there 10 pages on this in 12 hours?

Seriously, smitty, this site will generate twice as many post in half the time on a "Hillary is awesome, no Trump is awesome" thread, and you're gonna bitch about a baseball discussion? Por que?

The objective when you start the season is to win the World Series, not win 120 regular season games.

And @SlinkyRedfoot :finger2: wait tell I can leave this shithole state before you say fuck everything in it.

Ha!

No shit, Mrs Redfoot's OBGYN is a UofM fan and I think that's why he fucks with me. I've decided that when he hands me my kid in a couple weeks, I'm going to hold her and lovingly sing to her:

Of course COULD, just like a lesser team could win more games over a 162 team season.
But a seven game series is definitely long enough to prove one's self.

So the cubs went 7-0 vs the Mets in the regular, but 0-4 in the LCS. Which one was the better team?

The Mets. Who knows who the Mets were resting on those varied days, etc. When all hands were on deck for the seven game series of direct day to day competition for the pennant, the Mets came through.

Nah, that's just wrong, man...no way the Mets were a better team than the Cubs last year. I can admit it; they lucked out by Washington having a shitty year, being in a putrid division, and then getting hot for a 3-4 week period in Septober, punctuated by Daniel Murphy's insane performance.

JMHO.

That's spot on, Hu. No one can debate that the Mets were a better team than the Cubs last October, but if we're talking about 2015 in its entirety, I think there's room for discussion.

Honestly, I think there's room for discussion that the Nationals were a better team in 2015 than the Mets, and no shit, the Indians. I'm not saying either team was definitively better than the Mets, just that there's room for discussion, which is pretty wild considering the Mets went to the World Series and the Nats and Tribe didn't even make the postseason.

Would have been interesting if the Mets had won that WC game and faced the Cubs again in the short series. No telling how "in their heads" the Mets might have been. They DID sweep the Cubs in a four-gamer during this season, not sure how much of that was matchups/injuries/mental

I forget who mentioned it first in this thread and I'm too lazy to look it up right now, but there's a lot of randomness in baseball. That's why they need 150+ games to sort out the season - in an attempt to mitigate the random static.

Good teams lose series to shit teams all the time. Even in sweeps. Hell, this year, the Twins were 8-4 against the Indians in their first twelve games. The fucking Twins.

Lacking 3 of the 4 SPs who dominated them that series...hard to say it would've been much of anything.

Does that make them the best team in baseball for that season? Were the 2001 Diamondbacks better than the 2001 Mariners? What if the Indians win the World Series this year- does that make them better than the Cubs, or any other team in baseball this year? I'm looking forward to interesting opinions

Without reading any comments other than the OP. I would say the Chicago Cubs are the best team in MLB this year. If the Indians win the World Series, the Chicago Cubs are still the best team. The Cleveland Indians become World Series Champions. Not many remember the best team, they just remember the World Series winner ... Go Tribe!!!!

I am in the camp that the best teams wins the WS...

I do agree that post season is won by the hottest teams, but at the same time you are beating the best of the best... Unlike in the regular season where you are facing a 5th SP nearly 20% of the time AND you are facing bad teams more often than good teams... Also, schedule and division are a big factor...

But the real point to be made, in 5 years, will you remember any other team besides the WS champion?? Most people wont even remember who the champion beats in the WS...

With that said, I love how the Cub world is already giving themselves an out IF they lose the WS, saying just making the WS breaks the losing streak... Really fans, if you lose the WS it is just as big of a disappointment as if you lost in any previous rounds...

Most memorable doesn't man the best.

The fact that we still talk about the 2001 Ms shows they really were the best team and just found a way to lose.

Reasonable points. The regular season and postseason are almost two different sports, particularly with all the days off they schedule into the playoffs. I have big time respect for the results of a 162-game season. That's baseball. I think the playoffs are a fantastic way to dramatically identify the champion, but I do not think it's an infallible way to determine which team was the best over the entire season.

You're trying to convince us that it's more important to be the champions than it is to be the "best" team? No shit, jack.
