Demo'd out the new Titleist 913 D2 yesterday.. Not as much sweet spot feedback as I had hoped but much more accurate than my R11. Trying to justify the $400 purchase

Not bad sets:

I have the following:

Driver: Titleist 913 D3 8 degree
Fairway woods: Titleist FD 13 degree and 17.25 degree
Titleist 3 & 4 Utility Iron (just got a few weeks ago - awesome)
Irons: Titleist 710 AP2's - 5 - PW
Wedges: Ping Tour 52 and 58 degree
Putter: Ping Scotsdale Redwood

I was playing with Ping I15's and switched over to Titleist this year. Great move on my part after playing with Ping's for over 30 years.

Ultimately went with a Ping Anser driver. 3/4 inch short, 10.5 degree stiff stock shaft. The face is incredibly soft and the ball comes off with little to no spin on it. When I put it on the launch monitor, it was carrying 250 (which was about 10-15 yards shorter than my R-11) but it was rolling out an extra 20 yards farther than it was with the R-11. The shortness of the shaft allows me to hit it straighter and more consistently which is what I was truly looking for. It has been pretty wet in the Pittsburgh area this summer so I really have yet to use it in ideal course conditions. I recommend this club.

Stay away from intimepromos.com and get fitted. If you are new to golf, I highly recommend you DON'T spend a lot of money on name brand clubs and don't buy this years models. You can get better deals on last years models or slightly used at great prices. You can go to any decent golf course and rent their demo clubs. This will allow you to try several different brands before you are ready to buy. If you must have state of the art clubs, then go to a golf course (and NOT GolfSmith because they don't know what the hell they are talking about or doing) and make sure they have a launch monitor and different clubs for your to try. For example: I play with Titleist. I went to a course who had several different shafts and clubs heads and I hit golf balls outside (not at a screen).

Hope this helps and good luck.

Driver...3rd gen CLE Hibore draw bias, 10.5 deg, I want a new driver. I've demoed a half dz of the new driver...nothing I feel more comfortable getting in play yet.
3w...CLE 2n gen Launcher
2h/4h Wishon 321 hybrids
5i-9i...Cobra CXI
60/56/52/48...Snake Eyes forged ..60 & 52 are rusty
Oddessy putter...35" mallet style

The Cobras are my original set...Wishon 560MC is where my head is now, but I can get a set of R11s fitted for about the same price so I've been stalling.

Piggy backing on bsanko's comments.

Brand new to the game...a static fitting is more than enough since you don't have a repeatable swing yet to really worry about loft/lie, shaft, etc.....Golf is not a cheap hobby...it's going to cost a few bucks to get into the game...I'm not of the mindset to buy the cheapest clubs you can find...as bsanko mentioned...you can find quality brand clubs that you won't have to replace right away even if the golf bug bites you hard. CLE, Adams, etc..all have an entry level set that you can get into for around $300.

I just ordered a set of Ping G20 irons today from Golfsmith. I'm wanting to get out and play more and my set of Tour Model II's that I've had since high school just aren't cutting it. I need to upgrade my driver and woods, though I'll never give up my First Flight wooden 4 wood.

I've been looking at the Ping G25 or the Callaway X-Hot as far as drivers go, just need to play around with them.

I still say you cannot go wrong as a beginner or weekend golfer with the Adams Tight Lies and Adams hybrids. They are easily the most forgiving clubs on the market IMO.

I'm starting to narrow this down...I know I shouldn't be hitting blades so I have even considered any, but I really don't like a bulky iron club head...a thinner topline perimeter weighted club with some forgiveness is ideal...Adams A12 Pro, Callaway X Hot Pro, & Cleveland 588 CB is now my short list...The Wishon 560s (I love my 4H from him) were up there but hard to find to demo.

I've hit them all in the stores...now trying to get out to the range with them, but nothing but rain the last 2 weekends. Adams has transitioned out of the A12, but I can still find those locally. In the store they all hit about the same...X Hot have stronger lofts so they go slightly farther...we shall see.

Took the plunge!

Bought a new set of irons after about 6 mos of looking, and (saving)...I went to a couple of range demos during the spring...Callaway, Taylormade, Cleveland, and Ping...The I25 changed that, but I've never liked Ping irons as great as they are.

I circled back to the X-Hot Pro, Rocketbladz Tour, and the Cleveland 588 CBs over the weekend...Taylormade and Callaway both just recent dropped pricing on those clubs making it easy to push the Cleveland clubs aside even though I really like the looks...in the end I bought the Taylormade irons and with the savings I bought the Bushnell V3 with slope, and a new 56 Deg Cleveland wedge was already on my wish list.

The irons are being fitted so I didn't get to play with them Sat...probably won't this coming Sat. either, but the laser worked great the 1st round out with it.

If you play a lot of tournaments maybe I wouldn't get it, but the slope feature is worth it.

Bought a new Ram set over the summer since I started playing more. For next year I may add a Nike driver to my set and a new putter.
