I love baseball simulators. BBPro 98 is the best baseball game ever. I just thought ootp spent too much time on ticket and concession prices and not enough time on scouting and drafting.

I used to play Stratomatic back in the days of dice, charts and cards. That was fun too. I like the OOTP game for the ability to play anything from 1901 to whatever year you want.

Now going to Google BBPro98.

If you are interested, I recommend emulating a Windows 98 box to play it. I could help you find some mods that really helped as well...

So I'm playing through Bloodborne because everyone swears that its one of the best games of this generation and...yeah...I think its just okay. Its like Dark Souls but they get rid of a shield and magic and you have your gun and your weapon. The gun is really just there for parrying and its usually pretty obvious when you need to 1 hand your weapon (one on one) and 2 hand your weapon (crowd control or stagger depending on the weapon) so there aren't a lot of tough decisions there. The stamina bar is also very forgiving so the main thrust of the game is charging at enemies and then dodging 1-3 times in a row and then hitting them in melee when they're open. The main challenge with the tougher enemies is making sure you don't dodge into the environment because then the camera becomes another enemy and you'll likely get hit.

Its fun but then the main issue of Bloodborne starts to creep in - it all starts feeling the same. I got sick of seeing the same setting and fighting the same enemies the same way. The game basically forces you to level up on a regular basis or else you won't have the stats needed to beat the bosses and so I don't think this is particularly fun to grind. Then the first boss you fight is pointless as it unlocks a bonfire in the middle of nowhere that leads to nothing. The second boss fight is well done (use your long range weapons in the first phase, short range in the second phase) but even with the shortcut unlocked the walkback to the fight is a little on the long side and with the way the health system works you'll need to fight some enemies to get your health packs back. The third area puts you in an american gladiator style scenario with the boss where you fight him at the end of it and its interesting but the way to beat him is to cheese his AI by kiting him and healing or to climb up to the tower and hope he falls off. Neither way feels particularly rewarding. After roaming around a million gothic buildings and churches, I found the next boss which seems to have a ridiculous amount of HP and I'm wondering if this game ever really gits gud.

I'm thinking maybe Dark Souls 3 might be a little better for what I like in games.

I'm playing Sekiro. Shadows Die Twice, holy hell the hype about it's difficulty is spot on. It's an incredible game, visually, mechanics, physics etc. Incredibly challenging (also rewarding). If you want to sit down after work and feel like a god as you decimate enemies this is not the game for you, you will suck and you will get frustrated/contemplate if you wasted your money. I love it and hate it.

I have been playing Star Wars Timelines the last couple months. It is a mobile grinder, but fun nonetheless.

Waiting for the Madden 08 update from Football Idiots. I REALLY need to get back into RDR2 though... I shelved it when I went on holiday to visit my family last XMAS....

Thats a bit of a deceptive statement. I know I've beaten the 'game' twice but still haven't reached the final ending. I'd recommend getting to that point but at some point in the final leg of the game it just turns into a grind and I never finished it.

NCAA 14

Saddens me that I have to keep pulling this out for my NCAA fix, but honestly after looking at the garbage Madden comes out with every year it is probably for the best. Was really hoping one day for an ultimate dynasty mode where you could play teams on the road, make money, put it towards allocating money to build bigger stadiums/weight rooms etc. Make scheduling realistic, like a 2 for 1, commit to playing a team for multiple years.

I miss it.

So i bought a PS4 this past winter out of boredom. Just bought call of duty and am immediately told that it needs an update before I can play.

Go to do the update....only 58 hours and 34.5GB to go. :L

That’s what you get for hooking up you PS4 to your dial-up modem...

2800 baud just isn’t what it used to be.

Played through Shovel Knight. Its a modern imagining of Mario 3 with Mega Man and Castlevania elements. The first game is only about 4-5 hours through the first time. The bosses are quite fun and there is a lot of variety to the platforming.

The combat is quite easy once you get the patterns down so the only real challenge is the platforming which makes the Dark Souls style exp system seem pretty tacked on because most of your EXP you need to recover is sitting in a bottomless pit. Much of the game is a learning experience so its not the type of thing that is worth playing through more than once unless you're masochistic enough to try for challenges that requite you to play without checkpoints, buying items or dying.

The second game has some really cool leveling systems where you throw bombs but the character is even better at combat and even worse at platforming and that makes the experience less enjoyable.

I think my overall opinion of the game will depend on the third character. I feel like the initial runthrough was a really good experience but only as a budget title.

The new God of War. Just picked up a copy at half price. Enjoying it. Although I am not as into the whole gods aspect nearly as much as I was with the first 3.

Finishing up God of War and starting Divinity Original Sin 2 right now.

God of War certainly picks up as it goes. Not as easily enjoyable as the older games in the series but its impressive how cinematic the whole experience is and the combat is fairly intense once you get up the mountain. Its linear pacing and melee focus makes it a good compliment to something like Horizon Zero Dawn with its open world and ranged focus. Both games do a good job of making you feel like you're in the action during combat. The story is much more gradual in God of War and having a companion on your journey adds a lot of dialogue that isnt found in HZD so I feel like its more satisfying. I'm enjoying it.

Divinity Original Sin 2 seems like its improved considerably on the original. Its much more tactical and flexible than the first game with the ability to customize your NPC party members prevents the original sin of the first game which locked you into optimal classes just to get a balanced party. The new armor system also means that you dont need to have a balanced party if you focus on magic or nonmagic so you really feel like you can do whatever you want. There is a heavier focus on dialogue and characters while still keeping the sandbox quite big. You seem to get ambushed more in DOS2 and enemies can come out of nowhere so in that regard it can sometimes feel closer to something like Xcom2 and the game rewards you for having characters who are always prepared. The story is on par with the Dragon Age universe so far and that works for me. Huge fan of this game.

I went ahead and bought Sekiro and Dark Souls 3 on sale during Microsoft's E3 sale. If it's anything like how Dark Souls, the difficulty is a little oversold and I'm really enjoying DS3. It's my first taste of the franchise and I thought the complete edition for $21 seemed worth the risk...so far it is IMO. I want to beat this one first before I get Sekiro going since I have too many partially played games.

As far as 4X (explore, expand, exploit, exterminate) games go, I just went back to playing Masters of Orion II : Battle for Antares.
Released in 1996, the game still has a strong following and mods that make the game just as fun and harder than ever.
