Now a team can still do well without that player but then still see that player go and strengthen a rival.

How well did he strengthen them in the last meet up with the Pats? In fact, if he'd cleared out the receiving players a little sooner on the last punt, he might have not cost them the game.

Percy harvin.. He's touched the ball twice for the hawks, they were two nice plays.. But I don't think they were worth the 13 million (or whatever it was) that he made this year.

Nice one, I'd forgotten about him.

His official stats on the year...

Or should I say STAT since it's singular.

1 reception for 17 yards.

Percy Harvin, WR for the Seattle Seahawks at NFL.com

Wow. That shocked me.

Torn labia...um, I mean labrum, and it's been keeping him out.

Name a FA that got away in the offseason and was resigned by another team and ask if they were worth the money. It can be your team or someone else's.

Mike Wallace. Signed with the Dolphins for 5 years and $60M. Looking at his stats...

4 TD's, 905 yards, averages 60 yards per game.

He'll hit 1,000 for the year but if I'm paying a guy that much money you've gotta come up with more than 4 TD's, IMHO. Wasn't worth it.

James Harrison. Reportedly he wanted a hair more than we were willing to give. I think he ended up with about 4M a year.

Stats...30 tackles, 2 sacks and 1 INT. 2nd lowest total of his career.

Nope...not worth it.

Ed Reed. Signed a 3 year deal for 15M with 5M guaranteed. No need to look at the stats...he was cut. Resigned by the Jets...not sure if that's a negative or a positive.

Wasn't worth it.

Wes Welker. Believe it or not his contract isn't as much as one might think. 2 years and 12 million. Ed got a better deal. IMHO the Pats let their ego's get the better of them and lost HUGE on this one. Right about now they'd be willing to give him his weight in gold.

Stats...

73 receptions, 778 yards, with 10 TD's.

These stats will be his end of the year stats as he's inactive for this game.

His presence has allowed other WR's to get some serious catches as Welker is going to draw coverage no matter what.

Yeah, he was worth every penny. Hell, at this point the Pats would be willing to pay him 5M just to stay OFF the Broncos roster and not play at all.

Steven Jackson. He was supposed to be the missing piece to the puzzle down in the dirty. 12M for 3 years with 4M guaranteed.

Through 11 games he only had 502 yards and 6 TD's. Granted his average was 4.9 a carry. Thing is, he'd been putting up about double those numbers in St. Louis.

Don't think he was worth it.

Who am I missing?

Jackson had the misfortune of having one of the worst OL I have ever seen. I'm not sold on your saying the Falcons blew it with him. I will give you that he is injury prone but nobody can do his own blocking.

Trent Richardson was traded midseason and if he is making more than $50 a game, he is way over paid.

Numbers wise I can't argue with you, but I think IND tried to fit a square peg into a round hole expecting him to come in as a 2nd yr guy and pick up their OFC, midseason with no camp.

It's tough to show a lot of production from FAs because of the money.

A few that I think were pretty good pick ups.

Osi Umenyiora...Falcons, 7.5 sacks, 3 ff, 1 int 29 tackles...not great but solid....I would say worth it.

Cliff Avril...Seahawks, 8.0 sacks, 5 ff, 1 fr, again, solid...I would say worth it here also.

Brent Grimes, Dolphins, 4 int, 1 td, 15 pd, 47 tackles...worth it.

He had Tannehill as his QB (who has only gotten better) and plays for the Dolphins... I'd say he has done pretty well considering everything he has against him.. Again, Tannehill is developing into a good QB right now But I wouldn't go calling him a bust at all right now

That aside, the Colts paid out a lot of money for some mid-level pros they felt had potential. Cherilus was certainly worth the money. The rest remains to be seen. But hey, we play next week. :noidea:

But how many players in any sport get tons of money like that and not get tremendous numbers the year they sign the contract. Bottom line Wallace made the Dolphins offense very dynamic and scary with his long threat ability

Agreed...not worth worth $60 mil, you definitely want more TDs...but you can't just go by his #s because he forces 1 on 1 coverage every week which makes reads easier for the qb.

Some QBs are.

At WR you need a lot more than a mike Wallace though IMO. Fitz, Calvin, sure. A few others, maybe. Mike Wallace? They knew they were paying him too much. But a team like Miami doesn't have a choice. Their only draw is a willingness to overpay. Same with Ellerbe, as an example. If they offered similar value to Baltimore, he stays there. You have to add to fair value for guys to come to you.

The Dolphins needed a threat and they had to pay to get it.. They did, period. Not a bad move by them at all

Most FA's will be too much as some pointed out above but if they make your team better it's worth it. Wallace made the Fins better I can't imagine how bad they would have been without him....

No, they did what they had to do. That doesn't mean Wallace is worth his contract, just that they had to pay it anyways.

I wasn't saying that made him worth his contract. I was stating they needed talent and had to PAY to get it...
