Name a FA that got away in the offseason and was resigned by another team and ask if they were worth the money. It can be your team or someone else's.

Mike Wallace. Signed with the Dolphins for 5 years and $60M. Looking at his stats...

4 TD's, 905 yards, averages 60 yards per game.

He'll hit 1,000 for the year but if I'm paying a guy that much money you've gotta come up with more than 4 TD's, IMHO. Wasn't worth it.

James Harrison. Reportedly he wanted a hair more than we were willing to give. I think he ended up with about 4M a year.

Stats...30 tackles, 2 sacks and 1 INT. 2nd lowest total of his career.

Nope...not worth it.

Ed Reed. Signed a 3 year deal for 15M with 5M guaranteed. No need to look at the stats...he was cut. Resigned by the Jets...not sure if that's a negative or a positive.

Wasn't worth it.

Wes Welker. Believe it or not his contract isn't as much as one might think. 2 years and 12 million. Ed got a better deal. IMHO the Pats let their ego's get the better of them and lost HUGE on this one. Right about now they'd be willing to give him his weight in gold.

Stats...

73 receptions, 778 yards, with 10 TD's.

These stats will be his end of the year stats as he's inactive for this game.

His presence has allowed other WR's to get some serious catches as Welker is going to draw coverage no matter what.

Yeah, he was worth every penny. Hell, at this point the Pats would be willing to pay him 5M just to stay OFF the Broncos roster and not play at all.

Steven Jackson. He was supposed to be the missing piece to the puzzle down in the dirty. 12M for 3 years with 4M guaranteed.

Through 11 games he only had 502 yards and 6 TD's. Granted his average was 4.9 a carry. Thing is, he'd been putting up about double those numbers in St. Louis.

Don't think he was worth it.

Who am I missing?

Percy harvin.. He's touched the ball twice for the hawks, they were two nice plays.. But I don't think they were worth the 13 million (or whatever it was) that he made this year.

Welker wasn't about money. He made it clear he was no longer willing to buy into the New England mindset. At the time or in hindsight I wouldn't want him back with cost as no object.

Welker took the offer from Denver before negotiations were complete in NE. He did not want to play for the Pats.

We have upgraded with Julian Edelman. Edelman is a younger, quicker version of Welker but with better hands.

New England's final offer was on the table (and too generous for what Welker actually brings. A guy who's theoretically a possession receiver needs far better hands than Welker has, especially to be the primary option he would have been here). Negotiations were done.

Anquan Boldin : 76 rec, 1030 yds, 13.6 ave. per carry and 6 tds. 6th round draft pick and 6 mil for the season if I'm not mistaken. He has done well for the 9ers but is a UFA next season.....we will see.

Greg Jennings for $45 million over 5 years with $18 million guaranteed. He has 760 yards and 4 TDs... but he plays for the Vikings. I still think he's one of the best receivers in the NFL. The loss hurt the Packers more than it helped the Vikings... but that's still too much money. I can't even imagine the Patriots not re-signing Welker for half that amount.

Trent Richardson was traded midseason and if he is making more than $50 a game, he is way over paid.

Michael Bennett and Cliff Avril have both been huge for Seattle. Bennett especially. Could be the best signings of the offseason in the league

Reggie Bush 4y/16m 974 rushing yards and 473 receiving yards with 6 TD's so far. I didn't like signing when it happened but it turned out okay aside from a little fumblitis.

There are a couple for the Broncos beyond just Wes Welker that really stick out to me. The first being Shuan Phillips. He was brought in on a one year deal for $1 million as a situational pass rusher to help alleviate the loss of Dumervil in the off season. He has now become an every down player for the Broncos and actually has more sacks the Dumervil on the season at an 1/8th of the cost.

The other would be Louis Vasquez. The Broncos signed him to a 4 year deal at a pretty reasonable contract. He if I remember right hasn't given up a single sack all season and has actually graded out as the best OG in the NFL by PFF.

Now since it is being talked about quite a bit the Welker deal has been incredible for the Broncos so far. Not only did it take Tom Brady's favorite target away from him but has opened up the field for the whole Bronco offense. They were good last year without him but with him he makes them now an offense that should go down in history as the greatest NFL offense in history. He might drop a few here and there as some Patriot fans have eluded to but what he does for other players on the team is just incredible. Also what he can do to keep the chains moving for the offense has been pretty amazing as well!

Sheesh you are a dick. I talk well of one player and all of a sudden I suck on his dick? So I guess nobody is allowed to talk well of any player on their team without being considered a dick sucker these days huh?

Honestly dude I feel sorry for you. You seem to have a lot of hate and anger in you and honestly if it helps you to take it out on me on these boards then go right ahead I can take it. I just hope someday you can learn to enjoy life instead of looking to try and tear down those around you as misery does love company.

It was a great move for Denver. It was just better for New England.

Cdum, see above. JDM sums it up perfectly with the exact and consistent view held by 90% of all Pats fans.

In this thread you have mentioned once again the big one that got away from New England. We're really not missing him but you remain, message board-wise, euphoric about him. You should be proud of my comment, you've earned it.

Did I say once that it was a bad decision for the Pats? I completely understand why they made the decision to move on. I will say Amendola has been a bust for the most part so far but Edelman is pretty impressive. Welker also seemed to becoming a little more of a cancer in the locker room and started going against the Patriot way so again it made sense for both parties to part ways.

As a Bronco fan yes it feels nice to have Welker on my team as he has been a big time player for us this season. Yes it feels that much nicer knowing he came from the Patriots as they were the team heading into this season and I still believe they are the biggest threat in the AFC against the Broncos. He also was one of the few slot receivers in the league that gave Chris Harris fits. I don't think him leaving weakened the Pats as much as some had thought but has more been big for the Broncos. So it was a win win for all parties involved. That doesn't usually happen in the NFL.

I guess a thanks is in order for receiving your comment? So glad that you can be so mature on these boards and actually add anything of value to conversations (sarcasm if you didn't catch on).

Your childish sarcasm I get, the above I do not. If losing Wes didn't hurt us why is it nicer knowing he came from NE? If it's because he'll help defeat us, how'd he do last game?

My childish sarcasm? Hmmm who is the one that started this whole thing speaking about sucking on a dick? Yeah sure looks like I am the childish one in this argument.

Now as for the above comment. It is meant in the way that it is nice that a rival of the Broncos has to watch one of their old players do well and help the Broncos hopefully to the Super Bowl. Now a team can still do well without that player but then still see that player go and strengthen a rival. Same thing with the Broncos picking up Vasquez and Phillips from the Chargers. Both have helped the Broncos this year greatly. Now is San Diego worse without them I don't know. They seem to be doing fine without them but it is nice to see them succeeding for the Broncos than for someone else.

It seems as though most big FA signings never work out.
