PFF is hard to figure out for me. The have great stat breakdowns but when you see their lists for top ranked players it can be bizarre. Like I said last year when Brandon Graham was ranked as the #1 DE in the league. He wasn’t even top 15
Exactly. Their rankings are absolutely as unreliable as every other list. Employee A watches every snap of a legend like Brady. Employee B watches every snap of a player like Mariotta. We are supposed to think the results are 100% comparable?

Now repeat with two DTs and keep in mind that neither employee A nor Employee B has any clue what exactly was called on the play and what the DTs true responsibility was on that play. Perhaps one is playing two gap and one is playing one gap. Perhaps one normally plays one gap but was playing two gap on that play. Or perhaps there was on a stunt and his teammate didn't run it so he looked like he was smothered on the play but simply did his job. Now repeat with a CB that was supposed to have deep help but didn't. Or a CB that released his man to inside help but wasn't supposed to.

It's at least half Bull Shit and stat geeks who pick the "best players" without ever watching them and just based on stats eat it up for some reason.

They had him for another year on his rookie deal, a fifth year option, and the ability to tag him a few times, no? Why not see if he can actually stay healthy before doing this.

Could end up with the Kirk Cousins situation. While Kirk was not an injury risk to do things like what the Skins did is dumb from a business perspective.

honestly this is cheaper for the eagles. & easier to manage.
You can throw a bunch of Bonus money in with the cheap year so you are not eating that money after his 5th year is up. Much easier to absorb.
If things go way wrong. They are only really committed about three years anyways. So they are really only risking the fran tag year in his current salary, if everything goes wrong. If it goes right & they waited that fran tag year is gonna be way more & then they will be absorbing a ton of QB bonus money in the new contract instead of lapping it over some of the rookie deal.

Honestly the only way this becomes a bad signing (but not really) is if everything goes great & he becomes all of his potential & they sign him to multiple contracts for years to come. In which case all eagle fans will be loving that & wont give a shit. Reason I say that is now they will be signing the next (couple) contracts even sooner costing more money.

In short the Eagles were smart to do what they did. The only draw back being you have a badass for the next 10-15 years, I am pretty sure all teams & their fans would be ok with that.

If he struggles through this contract with injuries or what not. There was no way they were getting rid of him the 1st 5 years so he was getting paid that regardless. So again the only real year they are risking with this contract is the one where they might have had to Fran tag him.
Eagles win by getting him cheaper & he wins if his leg falls off.

This is probably the best write up on explaining this. From a talent perspective it makes perfect sense to sign him. The only drawback to Carson Wentz is his injury history and it is legit concern. However let's say he overcomes this and plays a healthy season then you are dealing with an over inflated QB pay structure. Mahomes is going to break the bank.

The Eagles beat the Rams and Cowboys to the punch on resigning their QB. I read somewhere that the Rams were going to wait on Goff anyway but given the way QB salaries are going you really never know and they have a 5th year option on him. Dak on the other hand does not have a 5th year option. The Cowboys either give him a monster deal or franchise him which makes not signing him just stupid because the project tag number for QB's in 2020 is around $27 mil.

I've said this before. PFF is pretty good at grading lineman, running backs and quarterbacks. That doesn't mean they are perfect but they do a decent job with that.

They are mostly useless grading the secondary and linebackers and wide receivers.

Because they only grade using the broadcast coverage. Thus a shut down corner can often much lower grades than a corner that was targeted a lot but did well.

The grades are useful but are far from gospel. They can often highlight strong performances by a lineman that will go unnoticed by most fans.

My source in Kensington says that McCown just legally changed his last name to Foles.
I'll try to have more on this breaking story as the day goes on.....
