I think only missing 6 games still puts Wentz over the 70% threshold. I think he'll need to miss 7 games or miss the playoffs.

I don't know the details, but if it is just regular season, 70% would be 12 games. Missing 6 games would give him 11 games played. But even if playoff games count toward that number, 70% of 18 is 12.6 games. If he misses 6 full games, he would still only have played 12 games....if they only play one playoff game. At least that is what I got with my napkin math. :D

I agree, he is often hurt at the worst times. But still, averaging 14 games a season in the NFL over a 5 season stretch isn't bad.
But he has also missed the playoffs twice and his team improved with him out both times

He still averaged 14 games a season. That’s a pretty healthy NFL player over a 5 year period.

The Colts are in a pickle either way because they don't have a legitimate back up QB. I know that can be hard to find but with that said, Wentz is injury prone and I would think the Colts are not that confident in Eason or Ehlinger. The Colts need to trade for Nick Foles or Gardner Minshew or see what it takes to bring Phillip Rivers back. They don't need to worry about hurting Wentz's feelings, this is part of the job. If anything, it should put more pressure on him to perform better. But the Colts should seriously consider adding someone else because Wentz likely won't last the season.

Eagles shoulda kept Nick Foles… They had a rare team chemistry going with him, and at the time Wentz was juicy trade bait… Bad decision by the Eagles top brass …

They could have been very bold and traded Wentz. They would have gotten a lot in return for him. That team would still be a challenger for the championship each year. Instead, they gave him a 100 million bucks. Ouch

You do realize you are talking about a QB that couldn’t beat out Gardner Minshew and Mitch Trubisky over the last two years.

The Eagles had seen enough of Foles in practice to know that magical run was a fluke and not be fooled into committing to him.

The Wentz situation collapsed on the Eagles. But it was still the better option back in 2019 when they were making it.

The Eagles FO office was lucky to survive the last two years. But they had the coaching staff to blame for the young franchise QB totally regressing. Had they signed Foles back in 2019, they likely would be right next to Pederson in the unemployment line.

You do know that Wentz has average 14 games a season in his career, right? That even includes the games he was benched last year?
Carson Wentz has only played a full season 2/5 years which is 40%, that is less then ideal for your starting QB. It also doesn’t help that they are adding on more games to a year.

Foles is too streaky to give any sort of investment to. One year he’s throwing 27 TDs and only 2 INTs. The next he looks like a clipboard holder at best. Then he comes out and wins a Super Bowl. Then he looks like crap again. His career is what Eli’s should have been if Eli’s last name wasn’t Manning. A career journeyman.

Chemistry, when you find it you try to keep it… Wentz never stay’s healthy and at the time Foles was way more clutch when it counted …

So is Wentz, and they coulda got something good for him at the time… They coulda added more talent to that roster and kept the chemistry for whatever reason Foles had with them…

Yeah, holding onto Foles would've been like the Ravens holding onto Flacco. A QB winning a Super Bowl is not the same thing as the QB being the reason you have a Super Bowl caliber team. David Freese was better than Albert Pujols for a month, too. You can't let small sample sizes impact long term team building.

Foles is like Case Keenum or Ryan Fitzpatrick. You want him on your team. Just as a backup and not the starter.

I wonder if Pederson didnt take a OC position somewhere this year because of the $300 unemployment kicker.

So the magic number is if a QB plays EVERY game in a season?

Wentz has averaged 14 games a season for 5 seasons now. Compare that number to most other QB's, even these notable ones:

* Ben Roethlisberger 3 full seasons out of 17
* Joe Montana 4 full seasons out of 16
* Dan Marino 11 full seasons out of 17
* Troy Aikman 3 full seasons out of 12

It is more common to not play every game a season than it is to play every game. For every Tom Brady or Russell Wilson who play every game, you have dozens of other QB's that don't play every game, and many that would love to average 14 games a season for a long stretch of time.

Heck, even Aaron Rodgers averages just a hair over 14 games during the regular season in his career.

Averaging 14 games a season is a good number for an NFL player, in my opinion, especially over a 5 season period.

Sure, we can see that now; but at the time Wentz was considerably younger than Foles, had a smaller sample size than Foles, and was still a recent top 3 pick of the Eagles that was still under their development. The Eagles had no good reason to go all-in on Foles over Wentz.

An investment on Foles would have been a bigger waste than sticking with Wentz.

The difference here is that those other QBs won games when they were healthy. Wentz was that guy for 1 season. Outside of that one season, he is 24-30-1 with 0 playoff wins.

So medium risk, low reward.
