i like a slice of American cheese on a HOT piece of apple pie. it's an old-fashioned thing that i tried as a kid after seeing my grampa do it, it's actually quite delicious, almost has a cheese danish-like quality to it.

I eat peanut butter toast about twice a week, on average. I don't know how the rest of ya'll do it, but I put the peanut butter on my bread before I toast it, not afterward.

I also like to make sandwiches with fresh figs & bananas. You just kind of mash the figs into the bread & add banana slices - no condiments added. Banana & onion pizza is pretty good, too!

And for the record, lots of people put mayo on grilled cheese sandwiches.

Bamabino, there's nothing strange about cornbread & turnip greens - unless you're eating them raw.

Worcestershire sauce is good on almost anything that has meat in it. It's also good on bread - just by itself, or with ketchup added.

Edisto, have you ever tried any of the blue tomato varieties? I grew some indigo blue tomatoes a couple of years ago & they were delicious! They had that good, old-fashioned tomato taste, but ripened a good month or so before any of the red varieties I grew. They were midway between a ping-pong ball & a tennis ball in size.

that's not odd
Some people get squeamish around mustard.

How about this one then: a slice of ham with a schmear of cream cheese wrapped around a baby gherkin pickle?

How does it not melt and get all over the place in the toaster?

Nothing weird with that 2nd one. That's a classic. I love a freakin' mater sammich, especially when it comes out of my garden.

Moxie asked, "How does it not melt and get all over the place in the toaster?"

Simple. I toast it in the oven.

Heretofore, you may have referred to that as "toast" but now it shall be called peanut butter bread baked in the oven. Toast comes from the toaster. Also- how are you going get the little toasty burnt bits of bread for the pb to cling to and crunch when you bite it? This does not compute.

Since I am the most polite poster and not one of the b-holes that will be rude to you about it, if you'd like to quote my post, you can hit that little red quote button in the lower right corner and it will put it in the posting box. If you'd like to quote multiple posts in one response, just hit the +Quote and then you'll have an "Insert Quotes..." option at the bottom of the posting box to add them all at once.

Moxie, I can appreciate where you are coming from, but I beg to differ: Since my concoction contains peanut butter spread on bread & then toasted, it is, in truth, peanut butter toast. What everyone else is doing is just toast, with peanut butter as a condiment.

when the kids were little and money was tight, we'd have fish sticks with mac and cheese, and tarter sauce made from ketchup and mayo.
Dafuq?

My dad usually made tartar sauce with mayo and relish, but ketchup?
