Huge like omg Georgia won a road game west of the mississippi? That kind of huge?

Georgia gets beat, its coming!

It was a huge game. First real game of the season for UGA, SEC opener, Mizzou's SEC debut, in a stadium that was as crunk as it ever has been, against a pass happy offense with 4-5 starters out on defense, first real test for a number of freshman that UGA is starting, hype, etc...

Georgia has won more games west of the Mississippi than it has lost.

I don't know if that's true , but maybe it will sucker you into the research.

ASU did it last year, started out 5-1 and ranked in top 20 and collapsed.

UCLA has done it numerous times, that year they beat Texas and Tennessee only to collapse and not even finish with a winning season. Heck, even 2006 when they beat USC is an example.

Note the upsets are always on the West Coast. When these teams travel they get smashed.

Also, SEC plays tough OOC as well. Week 1 the two premiere games on Saturday involved SEC teams (Alabama v. Michigan; Auburn v. Clemson). Tennessee played NC State Friday night. LSU played what was supposed to be a good Washington team last Saturday.

USCDoom, I gave UCLA benefit of the doubt because I do think they have a new attitude but if you look at past threads, I even picked UCLA to beat Nebraska http://www.sportshoopla.com/forums/...on/78743-nebraska-ucla-has-upset-written.html

I have just seen the same old story time and time again where some Pac12 team wins a game they were not suppose to, usually over a top ten team that ends up finishing the season 5-7. Remember Wisconsin barely beat Northern Iowa in week 1, Illinois is a B1G bottom feeder, and Okie State was playing a true freshmen QB. Let us watch the season play out before we proclaim Pac12 dominance or that ASU and Arizona are back.

Did you read the fine print?

I do see a few schools you left off of that list, just off of the top of my head.

ASU started 5-1 and then collapsed. That is true.
But they Lost to Illinois, and fell off in Pac 12 play, not by San Diego State.

Again UCLA is the only example. And even then its weak.

UCLA lost to Kansas State and Stanford to Start 0-2.
They then beat Houston and Texas. They were NOT RANKED at 2-2, or even at 3-2. They never beat Tennessee that year.

They did beat Tennessee in 2009, also they beat Kansas State and SDSU, they did lose 6 Pac 12 games though. But they beat everyone else...

IN 2006, UCLA went 7-5, all they did was Upset USC in the last game of the season. They were 6-5 before that game. How is that anything like you compared to.

Again I would like just One Example of the Pac 12 school beating a OOC school to get ranked then losing to SDSU and finishing .500. Just one example.

I just think that if you are going to use Impressive to rank schools, then ASU has to be ranked. ASU has been more impressive than USC or Oregon, yet ASU has to prove themselves??? I Dont Know, that just seems wrong.

Also it is not like they have Dennis Erickson still, they actually have a guy that focuses on Details.

UCLA has a Poor and Very Young D, they will lose games because of it. ASU has shown No Weaknesses at all. Other than Hoping they turn into ASU like last year!!

As of now, I think of the 4 games to end the season, ASU will be the toughest. USC plays
Oregon
ASU
At UCLA
Notre Dame (though the last two games might be flipped, I dont remember who we play 1st this year)

I thought that was what you wanted...

What schools?

LOL - yeah but I wanted MarkOU to have to do it.

Arkansas 5-2
LSU 5-5-1
Nebraska 0-1
St. Mary's 0-0-1
SMU 1-0
Texas A&M 1-1
Tulane 6-6
Tulsa 1-0

...and you counted a tie w/ Arizona as a loss.

So that's 26-23-3. :usa:

Id consider ASU as a top 25 team but I guess Im not that impressed by their wins. Wins over NAU and Illinois ( without the Illinis best player) arent exactly barn burners. I have NW higher in my poll based on the fact that the 2 teams they beat played top 10 teams tough in their other games ( USC vs Syracuse and USCe vs Vandy)

USCDoom, I wouldn't make fun of a pollster for ranking ASU. I am just stating don't get too caught up in some of the wins. The one Pac12 team I wouldn't rank is Oregon State because they got lucky in an ugly game where it was clear Wisconsin had major problems.

ASU maybe a top team. I also rank the Pac12 most years as the second best league after the SEC. I think they passed the B1G a long time ago (note the B1G was the best league in the late 90s IMO, they have fallen hard and fast this decade).

I won't deny that Pac12 teams are tough to play out on the West Coast, the problem is they don't have quite the teeth if you play them on Neutral Sites or when they are away. Also it seems like a lot of the teams regress as the season goes on (which is mostly due to Coaching).

I believe the Pac12 made some great coaching hire in this offseason, every hire was literally an upgrade. I also believe the Pac12 has the best shot of knocking the SEC off its perch of being the strongest league (although IMO FSU and Texas based on their play style have the most likely teams that can do it).

since this doesn't matter for the poll here's my top 25, I may forget someone doing this off the top of my head

1. Alabama
2. Oregon
3. USC
4. LSU(any of these for could be ranked any spot 1-4 and I wouldn't doubt you)
5. Georgia
6. Kansas State(still gets no love)
7. South Carolina
8. Clemson
9. Michigan State
10. Oklahoma
11. Texas
12. TCU
13. Ohio State
14. Virginia Tech
15. West Virginia
16. UCLA

19. Ohio
20. Arizona
21. BYU
22. Florida
23. Arizona State
24. Boise State
25. UL-Monroe(hey they won't stay here but you could argue they have the best win out of everyone right now)

still lurking just outside Florida State(they move in just simply with a win, but higher depending on how the play)

for this discussion

what you think will happen with a team should not be used to make your rankings, this is the rankings as of week 3
