Back in 2003 the Eagles had the top seed wrapped up and were playing a meaningless week 17 game. The engine of the offense that season was the breakout 2nd year running back Brian Westbrook. Reid played the starters in that meaningless week 17 game and Westbrook took an awkward fall and suffered an injury that ended his season. The Eagles went onto lose the NFC Championship Game to the Carolina Panthers 14-3 in a game the Eagles struggled to get any offense going at all.


Reid understands the risk of losing a key player to injury in the finale week of the season is not worth it when there is nothing at stake in the game.
