He will either fold like a cheap tent as he did last year in St. Louis or he will pitch well as he did on short rest vs ATL last year.

I have a bad feeling about this.

Kershaw can't win it by himself but he can put his team in position to win. If he goes out there and throw 7 innings of 2 run baseball and the Dodgers still lose nobody would blame him. If the Dodgers go on to lose this series everyone will look back at game 1 when he choked and let the pressure get to him

Last time he pitched in st Louis with his team's season on the line, he allowed 10 hits & 7 runs over 4 innings.

The problem Mattingly is running into is the short rest scenario where he might have to pull Kershaw early. The mid relievers for the Dodgers have been very bad. Kershaw probably needs 7 innings

And the Dodgers' offense scored 0 runs, a bit of a moot point. In Game 1, if we had even a semi-decent bullpen then the Dodgers most likely come from behind to win, hardly a "Kershaw choke job".

Point is, Kershaw is not the only guy out there. He's a gamer, he gladly goes on short rest in the playoffs, he's not afraid of the big moment, he's been great all year long. This whole notion that Kershaw is a choke artist is a unreasonable.

Hardly a kershaw choke job?

He gave up 8 fucking runs

We didn't lose solely because of Kershaw, we scored 9 he gave up 8, and one of those runs came from the 3 run bomb served up by Baez.

The fact that people think 45 postseason innings (scattered over four different seasons) have predictive value is absurd.

Yeah, and his manager left him out there much longer than he should have. It took Mattingly how long to get someone warming up in the bullpen?

I didn't say you did. He still choked. Giving up a 5 run lead in the 7th is the exact definition of a choke job.

Well, if the manager takes him out after giving up a couple of runs then what would the conversation be right now? It'd be about how Kershaw had a good start in Game 1.

It's because there's no confidence in the bullpen that the Dodgers leave him in there to walk the tightrope time and time again. He's done it all year long, Cards were the first team this year to knock him out of a game. I didn't take that as Kershaw not being able to deal with the moment, I took that as just not being his night that night.

If Kershaw was a choker why would he confirm a short rested start before Game 3 even started? That doesn't fit my definition of a folder/choker/whatever you want to call it.

He was good for a while if not great

Still did not log a win and is on the hook for a loss without getting past 6 innings

Much better but still nowhere close to his regular season success
