On another note, a lot of talk about Stafford's legacy this morning Most of us here, I think are happy for Matthew and his family. That being said, does this win give him a gold jacket? I kinda think he was possibly on a HOF trajectory anyway but this pretty much locks it up for him.

She was done for the rest of the regular season after her Kaepernik comments, they let her finish out the playoffs. As a guest panelist on that show, she was the only one who knew anything about football, but was pretty well shouted down.

I don't agree with most of her political opinions. She's completely in the tank for the right. But I think that not bending the knee to Kaep is a pretty bad reason to get rid of someone.

Ah I knew she was in hot water for something... She probably is the only one on that panel that knows anything

Damn the Rams

But in all seriousness congrats Rams fans.

I remember this time 8 years ago and it was awesome. Soak it all in.

Oh and please retire Donald

It's not that hard to make the football hall of fame, so I'll say yes.

Don't watch the segment unless you like being seriously pissed off. She was spot on and in my opinion far more thoughtful and educated than those other disgusting pigs.

I can't watch politics but I imagine she would make a great conservative talk show host if she chooses that route.

The football hall of fame is more about narratives than statistics. If it were the baseball hall of fame, he wouldn't make it. His career passer rating is closer to the middle than to the top compared to the other starting QB's who played during his time. I understand he played for the Lions, but he did have Megatron for many of those years.

Stafford is rich in narratives, though, and that will get him into the HOF easily, IMO. He is the heroic figure who toiled for years in Detroit before finally going on to win in LA.

Stafford statistically has been significantly better since Calvin left. Completion Percentage, interception rate, and yards per attempt, all increased after his retirement. The only stat that dropped was TD%, which is understandable.

I agree on the narrative part. It really is more of a driving force for HOF voting, imo. In the game thread, somebody mentioned W/L record but that is more of a team accomplishment and the Lions had some really bad teams. I do think Stafford has a good run for the next 2 or 3 years and a lot of his negatives go by the wayside.
I'm also not a huge fan of passer ratings though. Kirk Cousins is ahead of Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Joe Montana, Kurt Warner and Steve Young for petes sake. And Tony Romo ahead of all of those except Brady. Stafford is behind Jared Goff and we just saw the difference in those two this year. Kinda makes the whole rating system suspect, imo.

There's probably some better gauge than passer rating, but I don't know what that is yet. I just like it because it is objective. I don't like ESPN's QBR because they are not transparent about their formula. We know exactly how passer rating is calculated.

Kirk Cousins is ahead of Brady and Manning likely because (edit: actually, this is simply the true reason why Cousins's passer rating is higher) Brady and Manning played in earlier years of the NFL and their careers go back into the 1990s and the same goes with the other greats you mentioned, some of whom go back to the 1980's, which is the Stone Age compared to now. Cousins's career didn't start until 2012.

There is a valid argument that Stafford would have a much better passer rating if he didn't play for Detroit. However, Goff's passer rating this season on Detroit is actually slightly higher than Stafford's career passer rating on the Lions. And Stafford's passer rating this year is only slightly higher than Goff's passer rating in Goff's first 2 seasons as the Rams' starting QB.

I know that the narrative right now is that Stafford is great and that Goff is terrible, and to the winners go to the spoils, and I fully understand that, but an objective look at the two may show that they aren't that far apart. Luck is a big factor as to why a team wins or loses. We know that Goff was the QB for the Rams when they went to the Super Bowl 3 years ago. They didn't win, but he deserves some credit.

And the difference is Stafford could finish the job, not many qbs could put that game winning drive together yesterday.

Despite my salty takes on this thread (which I know that you all know are genuine), I am truly happy for all the Rams fans who stuck with that team despite all the crap that they have put their fans through with all the moving away and back crap. I couldn't imagine how I would feel if the Niners did that. And no, moving to Santa Clara, which is a Bay area city, does not count. Hell, if the Niners moved to Sacramento, I probably wouldn't care. They would have to probably move out of state for me to be pissed.

This is how I feel. I don't know why so many Chargers fans disappeared or disowned them when they moved 2 hours away. Although they probably didn't have a lot of diehards in the first place.

With regard to Charger fans, I'm guessing that choosing LA over San Diego is a factor as to why many dropped out. Also, I think people really hate the owner.

I really am impressed with Rams fans that go back to before 1995. The Rams didn't just move a couple hours away. They went all the way to St. Louis. Imagine if your wife left you for another man, and then she shows up at your door 20 years later wanting to resume things. LOL.

Fair points. I think to expand on this metaphor: She marries the other guy, they win the lottery. She comes back to you, looking even better and then you win the lottery with her. She wins twice, but at least you won in the end.

Rams went all in and it paid. All you can do is tip the cap.
Anybody talking about officiating should give it a rest. The better team won.

I didn't at the end, our defense was dominating, the Bengals didn't score again since early in the 3rd quarter. So I was confident they would end the game.
