These afternoon games suck at the best of times but a noon start is really stupid. Can somebody explain what has happened to Danny Heatley? The guy used to be one of the best "big-game" performers in the league and he's been really awful lately aside from parts of game 3.

Ever since the 2007 Stanley Cup Finals when the big bad Ducks bullied him and Spezza around, Heater has not been the same - his foot speed is completely gone (not that he ever had a lot to begin with) and he shys away from too much contact to be any more than a peripheral player.

Although in his defense, he did look good on a line with Getzlaf and Nash at the 08 World Championships. Maybe it's not Heatley - it's his supporting cast?

I think C?BC said one game its his age. its really catching him. he is 30 but that is not old I dont think that is the problem. hes scored big seasons since that accident so its not a inury as a result.

Honestly, it's practically an epidemic across the league. As for other Canadian teams, ask Boston fans about Montreal, for example. Everybody is bad. I do get a little sick when I see guys with the talent of Kesler doing it, though. No reason for it.

After calming down a bit from a real tough game, here are my thoughts.

With all the PP's and sideshows, etc going on around this game... the difference can be boiled down to some combination of the fact that

a) Louongo was better than Niemi today
b) The Canucks shot better than the Sharks today.

The Canucks pulled their best Florida Panthers impression during the 5 on 5 play for most of the game, but hit their shots when they had to, and their goalie stole a game.

It felt like the Sharks had a dozen slot shots straight up on Lou that they either missed the net or shot it right into him. To borrow a soccer term, the team simply did not "finish" today.

IMHO, for the first time in the series, the team that skated better did not win the game.

There were too many penalties called. I know a lot of them were good calls or calls that had to be made, but there were 1 or 2 calls each way that were bad calls. This is the Conference Finals, and the refs have been terrible all series. It might be the homer in me speaking, but the Canucks have gotten a slight edge from the bad reffing.

Congrats Nucks fans. Special teams were the difference in this one. Vancouver really dominated that aspect of the game. The Sharks played with a lot of desperation the final 13 minutes. Wonder where that was the first 47.

The only bright side that I can come up with is that Vancouver had a chance to close out both their first two series at home in game 5. Hopefully the Sharks can bring the series back to San Jose. Will be pretty hard if Thornton can't go though. That's a loss I'm not sure the Sharks could overcome.
