Got it.. thanks much for all that info.

Sucks for you guys because he has definitely eaten the Sharks alive in quite a few games, IIRC... big break for the Sharks if he can't lace them up.

Very true re: 70%.

We still don't know too much about Clowe... He looked OK last night.. just under 20 minutes and had 4-5 hits, IIRC.

Was a bit slow out there (cautious, maybe) but we still don't know what the real problem is with him other than "upper body"... this is the most specific speculation we've seen from the Sharks blog (prior to Game 7 when he was still a game time decision):

****The Sharks still are describing Clowe’s injury only as upper body, but all the speculation about a concussion — and the cbc.ca report saying that was the case — does seem on the right track.

His head may not have hit either the ice or the boards when Clowe was decked by Niklas Kronwall in Game 5 — and McLellan has said that hit was not the cause of the problem — but there was a whiplash effect on that contact and there could have been other moments in the game where the damage was compounded.

We've also seen teh dreaded flu mentioned as the reason he didn't fly to Detroit for Game 6...

Regardless, he should be ready for Game 1 but very likely not at 100%.

rares: heard anything about the defensive matchups (above)

Nope, nothing yet but our pairings are Boyle/Murray, Demers/Vlasic, White/Wallin and I can't see them changing this late at all... also, I'm not sure how much McLellan will try to match up a D pairing vs. certain forwards... he's always given the cliche "we're confident in all our pairings/lines" useless answers when asked about matchups vs. Detroit so I'm sure he'll give the same now.

Realistically, we might not know what it's going to look like in terms of matchups until they drop the puck on Sunday.

I wonder which player with the biggest chip on his shoulder playing vs his former team will have the biggest impact, Kyle Wellwood or Christian Erhoff.

Wellwood was a "Project" when the Canucks signed him. He had moments of brillant play and fitness related controversy. There was certainly some bad blood when he left.

Erhoff was a Cap Casualty in San Jose and is playing great right now.

Ehrhoff will have a bigger impact on this series, bad blood or not.

I have a feeling he'll want want Murray and Boyle out agains the Twins if he had his choice, because the Twins don't like getting hit all that much if the Nashville series was any indication. I think he'll want to keep Kesler in check with the better skating duo of Vlasic and Demers, because Kes can fly.

Can't get on to Youtube due to "company policy", but if I could, it would be "YOU BASTARD" - by Chris Farley from Dirty Work.

I haven't watched these teams a whole lot but I feel like they are very similar. I like upsets and all that but it's nice to have 1 vs 2 for once.

Like filo mentioned, the Demers/Vlasic pairing is the best skating pair and should draw whichever VAN line has the most speed (Kesler's). I think that is the right choice, with Boyle/Murray drawing the Sedin line.

I am more interested to see which forward line will play opposite the Kesler line. Thornton has become the best defensive center and should draw VAN's most dangerous forward line, which is Kesler's, as of late. However, that leaves the Sedin line drawing Pavelski's line or Couture's line which I think heavily favors the Canucks.

TMac isn't very proactive about line matchups on the fly. He will get last change on homeice and will make his preferences known in game 3. He rarely goes for the quick line change off the faceoff just to get the matchup he desires.

I was hoping a Canuck fan can shed some insight on why Ballard is not getting any playing time. Thanks.

the related story (the part about the energy savings makes me laugh)

The Canucks' playoff run has Metro Vancouver toilets flushing in unison with a precision not seen since the Olympic hockey finals during the 2010 Winter Games.

Metro engineers are measuring big drops in water pressure throughout the system at the end of each period in key Canucks games.

That shows there's a whole lot of flushing going on as soon as cross-legged fans can safely tear themselves away from their TVs.

A Metro graph shows water pressure in Burnaby plunged 15 per cent immediately after the third period of Game 7 between Vancouver and Chicago.

"It just drops like a rock," Metro utility systems control superintendent Rick Marchand said. "We saw the same effect everywhere throughout the Lower Mainland."

His engineers have to keep an eye on each game so they can anticipate commercial breaks, intermissions and overtime goals and brace for when fans will make a mass dash for the can.

"We know we're going to get hit, we know it's going to happen," Marchand said. "So we'll try to anticipate by starting up a bunch of pumps and raising the pressure to maximum levels in advance."

Metro engineers normally expect higher flows on the top of each hour as popular TV shows end but they tend to see the highest numbers during major televised events.

They even detected a royal flush phenomenon in the wee hours of April 29 during live coverage of the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton .

But nothing so far compares to the more than 100,000 flushes measured immediately after Sidney Crosby 's overtime goal to give Canada men's hockey gold at last year's Olympics.

Marchand, however, said his staff think Canucks fans' toilet power can top even that mark in the weeks ahead.

"These demands, this consumption draw is going to be more severe as we go through the playoffs," he predicts.

Canucks games are also causing a surprising drop in the amount of electricity being used.

B.C. Hydro measured a 3.6-per-cent drop in power consumption during the deciding game against Chicago – equivalent to 48 million compact fluorescent light bulbs being turned off – and about a two-per-cent drop in Game 6 against Nashville.

That's far better than the concerted effort made by many green-minded B.C. residents to light candles and cut power use during Earth Hour in March, when a mere one-per-cent saving was recorded.
"You might call it an accidental case of conservation," said B.C. Hydro spokesman Greg Alexis.

His theory is that while at least one TV in most households is on, lots of people watch it and don't do much else to suck power – like vacuuming, washing laundry or running other energy-guzzling appliances – while the game is on.

Less power may be used for cooking too, especially if fans are barbecuing or ordering in.

"We'll continue tracking it – hopefully until the first week or two of June," Alexis said.

While some money is being saved through power conservation, other costs go up because of the playoffs.

Municipalities, notably Vancouver and Surrey, expect to pay more in policing costs to deal with celebratory crowds, particularly if the Canucks advance to the Stanley Cup final.
