How to Watch the NHL Playoffs When Your Team Misses the Cut - The Triangle Blog - Grantland
I found this pretty amusing and accurate.

Watching your team in the playoffs is like a crack addiction. It feels so good, but it hurts so bad, and it makes you feel like shit but you can't stop.
Watching other teams is awesome. It sucks, because your boys aren't playing, but it's all the fun and action of NHL playoff hockey without any of the heartburn. It's like unprotected casual sex with an anonymous partner who's already pregnant, so you know you can't knock them up.
After seven years, you learn to accept it.
Team being out of playoffs = more time for cone-ing
Cone-ing 2012?
I know. The devastation this has wrought on suburban fast food restaurants is awful and in the dozens of dollars.
Getting back to the topic, for me, it depends on the year. Some years, I really enjoy watching some of the series and especially the Finals. Some years, I won't even watch hockey after the Caps are out. I've said it many times, but I'm a fan of the Caps first, and a fan of hockey second.
I think it depends on when your team is knocked out...if it's the first round, I won't watch regularly until CF time, if it's second I'll probably snap out of it by SCF, but if it's CF? Yeah, not watching...
If your team gets knocked out in the conference finals? What does that mean? I'm not familiar with that.
Yeah, I'm the same way, P66. I need a break before I can enjoy it.
Cone-ing 2012?
Kony-ing? As in using children as solidires you sick !@#$
And yes, there are worse fates than watching an NHL playoff that doesn't include your team. You could be 1. studying for finals, 2. or getting a root canal, 3. or watching the NBA.
Zing!
